May Birthday Giveaway: goods from Schmancy

goods from Schmancy!

Today I’m happy to have a selection of goods from Schmancy, a tiny but super awesome shop here in Seattle (which you should visit if you are anywhere nearby). Schmancy is owned and run by Kristen Rask, author of books, runner of Urban Craft Uprising, creator of School House Craft and general powerhouse. In a happy coincidence Schmancy launched a new website just yesterday, lookin’ good.

The package from Schmancy includes a zipper pouch and strawberry magnet hand made by Kristen herself and three collectible items from her shop: a Dunny 2010 Series from Kid Robot, one City Critters from Mindstyle (all designs are from Jim Henson’s sketchbook!) and a Droplets are from Crazy Label. Nice! To win please leave a comment with this entry and if you’d like answer this question: See that rainbow patch on the zipper pouch? It makes feel nostalgic. Have you ever collected patches as a kid? I’ll go first: I had a few patches from when I was a Brownie (which didn’t last all that long), and I used to go through my mom’s collection of patches because they were so colorful. You’ve got until Thursday, May 12th at 10am to enter, the fine print applies. Ok, good luck! Closed, thanks so much for entering!

I had both Brownie patches and Girl Guide (Canadian!) Patches. The great thing about the G.G ones was that as you advanced in certain areas, you layered patches on top of patches…sometimes it got quite difficult to sew through!

  • 2 papelhilo // May 11, 2011 at 2:47 am

Its so cute ! I really love the pouch and strawberry magnet !

  • 3 noimea // May 11, 2011 at 2:56 am

    I love that!

  • 4 Katie // May 11, 2011 at 3:03 am

The patch makes me nostalgic for my Brownie days, too. :)

  • 5 Lauren // May 11, 2011 at 3:10 am

That’s really sweet! I had some patches from brownies too… in my adult life though, nothing really, aside from the odd provincial park patch that never ended up getting used for anything.

  • 6 Kate // May 11, 2011 at 3:21 am

Love the purse! I used to collect patches as a kid, my favourite had to be of an apple with a bite taken out of it – but only because it was in my favourite colour red!

  • 7 Erin // May 11, 2011 at 3:24 am

    Super cute!

  • 8 Kelly // May 11, 2011 at 3:31 am

I love the little strawberry, so cute!!

  • 9 Kate // May 11, 2011 at 3:34 am

I went through a phase when I was in middle school when I could not get enough patches for my jeans, jackets, etc. How fun!

  • 10 Jack Pandemian // May 11, 2011 at 3:46 am

I had not a single patch as a kid! I was always about the stickers. Love them as an adult though!

  • 11 Niina // May 11, 2011 at 3:51 am

    Lovely stuff!
I didn’t collect patches but scented erasers and stickers (preferably scratch n sniff) ones. They never got used, just laid there in different boxes.
My brother just found his collection of heavy metal bands from the 80ties patches. I now sew them on my kids clothes :-)

  • 12 Kate // May 11, 2011 at 3:53 am

I wasn’t a patch collector so much as a patch sufferer — different kind of patch, my grandma believed she souls save anything with on of those iron-on deals with the pinked edge! I did also have a Stryper patch someone gave me that I was too chicken to attach to my jean jacket. Hoping to bring this (much cuter!) patch into my adult life!

  • 13 Alba // May 11, 2011 at 3:58 am

    How cute!!

  • 14 Karin // May 11, 2011 at 4:00 am

I was a Brownie, too! I made it to Junior level before I quit. I was so obsessed with getting the patches!

  • 15 Dagny // May 11, 2011 at 4:04 am

    that’s so sweet!!

no I never collected patches but loads of other stuff.. my little one just recently found my sticker albums and was in love with all the different shapes and feels of them *eheh*

  • 16 Jamie G // May 11, 2011 at 4:17 am

I had a few patches in high school from the hippie/convenience store near our university. I felt pretty cool with them, I must admit.

  • 17 Laurie // May 11, 2011 at 4:19 am

I had patches from all my years in girl scouts (all the way up to mid-high-school, long after everyone sane had already quit), but none beyond that. I should dig out my old sashes and repurpose some of those patches, methinks

  • 18 Sarah // May 11, 2011 at 4:27 am

    What a cute prize!

I never really collected patches. I think I had a couple, but I never sought them out and I was never a brownie/girl scout. I did, however, have a pretty massive collection of buttons and stickers!

  • 19 Melinda // May 11, 2011 at 4:28 am

Love the giveaway. I don’t collect patches but I have a good portion of a corkboard filled with badges. They are one of my weaknesses.

  • 20 Cassy // May 11, 2011 at 4:30 am

The strawberry makes me feel nostalgic. It reminds me of the pin cushion that my mom had. As far as patches, I had plenty of Girl Scout patches but I also have a memory of a hippy style peace sign that I sewed onto my backpack.

  • 21 Michelle // May 11, 2011 at 4:36 am

I only collected Girl Scout patches, and I think once my mom patched a hole in the knee of some pants with a patch once.

  • 22 Elise // May 11, 2011 at 4:38 am

The only patches I collected very girl scout patches. Not that makes me feel nostalgic.

  • 23 darlene // May 11, 2011 at 4:41 am

I didn’t collect patches as a kid but I’d like to start now. I love toys. Those prizes are adorable.

  • 24 Ruth Ann // May 11, 2011 at 4:44 am

I collected patches from space missions for a while when I was a kid. Now I have a few patches from various sci-fi tv shows and movies but I try not to buy patches that I don’t immediately know where I’m going to use them. I love the “Blue Sun” patch on my lunch box.

  • 25 Sarah // May 11, 2011 at 4:50 am

    Ooh, patches! Shiny!

  • 26 betsy // May 11, 2011 at 4:56 am

Nope, never collected patches as a kid.

  • 27 roya // May 11, 2011 at 4:57 am

No. I never collected patches. I had a couple of ugly ones on my pants knees when I was a kid.

  • 28 Lou // May 11, 2011 at 4:57 am

My mom used to sew flower patches into my jeans. :)

  • 29 Linda // May 11, 2011 at 5:04 am

I had bellbottom jeans with a big bumblebee patch at the bottom (on the “bell” part, doncha know) and I loved them so much! This is a great giveaway!

  • 30 jennybookworm // May 11, 2011 at 5:05 am

What a cool collection of stuff! I had Brownie and Guide badges/patches too — but when it came to collections I was in that era that was crazy for stickers – we had albums to put them in and admire… !!

  • 31 CareBearNJ // May 11, 2011 at 5:07 am

I had a rainbow patch just like that! My mom sewed it to the front of my navy sweatshirt and it was awesome. It may or may not have said Niagara Falls underneath…. I’ll have to check out the old photo album and find out!

  • 32 Fabi // May 11, 2011 at 5:14 am

No, I never collected patches as a kid. That strawberry is so cute!

  • 33 Crystal // May 11, 2011 at 5:14 am

I didn’t collect patches specifically, but I did end up with some. I wonder whatever happened to them?

  • 34 Marleen // May 11, 2011 at 5:25 am

do flags count as patches as well? We used to beg our father to bring them back home for us when he’d go abroad… I think I would now prefer a rainbow though! :-)

  • 35 Kim // May 11, 2011 at 5:25 am

Another Brownie/Girl Scout patch collector here! I was obsessed with doing all the things we had to do simply to get a new patch. As soon as I would get one, I would have my mom sew it on!

  • 36 stephanie // May 11, 2011 at 5:28 am

Awesome giveaway! There is an incredibly cute (if I may say so) picture of me as a wee toddler, proabably around 2 sporting a kick-ass jean jacket with a couple patches on it. The most notable? Ronald McDonald…ahhh the 70’s when feeding your kids was so much easier :)

  • 37 Serena // May 11, 2011 at 5:31 am

Are applies from Italy accepted? :-)
I had a denim jacket full of those patches, they were very cool at the age of 10!

  • 38 katie // May 11, 2011 at 5:33 am

yay! when i was a kid my mom sewed patches on our hoodies so my sister and I could tell which one was which. i always got a unicorn and she got stuck with a horse!

  • 39 H // May 11, 2011 at 5:34 am

I definitely collected patches for Brownies, but never really gave up the collection!

  • 40 Theryn // May 11, 2011 at 5:35 am

I saw that patch and immediately thought of brownies. I think we got a rainbow patch like that when we “bridged up” from brownies to juniors. My second thought was to wonder if that was still an accepted symbol because of the gay subtext of rainbows.

  • 41 Alysia // May 11, 2011 at 5:39 am

I never collected patches, but that patch reminds me of an old sticker collection I had. My mother was so mad, they covered my bookshelf.

  • 42 Shawna // May 11, 2011 at 5:43 am

I had this one awesome patch that I got from my mom that I put on a purse I made from an old pair of pants — The Beatles St. Pepper’s logo! It was vintage, but who knows if it was worth anything. My mom was very generous in sharing it with me :)

  • 43 Leah F // May 11, 2011 at 5:45 am

I was a Brownie and had a pretty good set of badges. The learn to skate program in Canada and the learn to swim program both had badges, so I had quite the collection as a kid. I was actually really sad that by the time I got to be a lifeguard the patches were about 1/4 the size of the old school ones.

  • 44 patricia // May 11, 2011 at 5:46 am

I collected rocks, not patches, but I had lots of patches applied to my pants after I tore them while I was out looking for rocks.

  • 45 daisywheels // May 11, 2011 at 5:51 am

Girl Scout patches for a year.

  • 46 Lise // May 11, 2011 at 5:51 am

I had lots of Brownie and Guides patches. I loved them. I think there was one with either a vacuum cleaner or a broom on it that was for ‘helping your mom’ with chores. Oh, the 80s.

  • 47 Meaghan // May 11, 2011 at 5:53 am

OMG – the Girl Scout patch! My root! I didn’t just collect patches…I earned them. Eight years of commitment to ugly uniforms and knee socks. I still have my juniors vest. Thanks for the giveaway(s).

  • 48 Dusie // May 11, 2011 at 5:56 am

I used to collect patches. It probably started with Brownies (which I quit) but I believe I had a backpack covered with them!

  • 49 Seanna Lea // May 11, 2011 at 6:01 am

I never really collected patches, but my mom would take interesting labels off of clothing and accessories and add them to bags. I used to have this huge denim bag made from old pants (or an old jean jacket) with tons of labels on it. It was awesome.

  • 50 Angie // May 11, 2011 at 6:02 am

I still have all my patches from Brownies…. they never made it to my sash but were just piled up until when they would be sewn on at some point. I never earned a badge for sewing so they still sit there…

  • 51 Tina Venus // May 11, 2011 at 6:05 am

    Love this!

  • 52 Bonney // May 11, 2011 at 6:07 am

I didn’t collect patches until I found Mama Merit Badges. I’ve made lots of gifts for friends using them. Schmancy was the first place we visited when we went to Seattle last year!

  • 53 Meg // May 11, 2011 at 6:08 am

Did not collect patches, which is odd now that I think about it, since I collected everything else! I do have a lot of patches on my various bags as an adult, though.

  • 54 Meg // May 11, 2011 at 6:13 am

Definitely collected patches in middle/high school. They were pretty random stuff I could find in my hometown. As an adult, I have collected some patches from countries I’ve been to, along with trail badges from national parks and such. Patches are awesome!

  • 55 hnahk // May 11, 2011 at 6:13 am

i have a ‘thing’ for magnets and this strawberry one is sooooo cute. i collected patches on my denim jacket…ohh gotta love the 80s.

  • 56 Katie // May 11, 2011 at 6:17 am

I didn’t collect patches. Remember friendship pins? Those were my thing.

  • 57 Mia // May 11, 2011 at 6:21 am

No patch-collector when I was a kid, more into buttons (still am!) Other than that, I like to “collect” pretty things! *grin*

  • 58 Gweneth // May 11, 2011 at 6:25 am

    Wow, these are super cool.

  • 59 Karen // May 11, 2011 at 6:29 am

I had a little froggy patch that I actually transferred from one pair of jeans to another when those finally wore out.

  • 60 Christa // May 11, 2011 at 6:31 am

No patches from my youth, but I did have a rainbow dress that I loved…

  • 61 Beth // May 11, 2011 at 6:31 am

What’s funny is that I just bought a rainbow patch for my daughter, who is bridging from Brownies to Juniors!

  • 62 Stephanie // May 11, 2011 at 6:32 am

Holy crap! I love this stuff!!!

  • 63 Kerry // May 11, 2011 at 6:39 am

I never had a denim jacket or anything with a ton of patches. I collected bumper stickers, had them all over the back of my door, and then when I went to college all over a trunk that I had (and still have now).

  • 64 Mary C H // May 11, 2011 at 6:39 am

I sewed on lots of boyscout patches a few years back!

  • 65 Bonnie // May 11, 2011 at 6:40 am

Very cute! I had some patches from Brownies and Girl Scouts, but I have no idea what happened to them. I also have a couple that I put on a backpack in college. I still use the backpack!

  • 66 sharmie // May 11, 2011 at 6:44 am

i had a few patches, mostly band-related ones when I was a kid. i was more of a buttons girl. i collected buttons and pins and attatched them to anything i could find! oh, the 90s… :)

  • 67 Jessica // May 11, 2011 at 6:44 am

I think the purse is awesome and I love little collectibles. I had atches as a kid from brownies but i was more into buttons & pins. My 80’s acid washed jean jacket was heavy from the amount of cute pins & stuck on there.

  • 68 Robin // May 11, 2011 at 6:45 am

I had lots of those fuzzy footprint patches. Child of the 70’s here. I loved them.

  • 69 Melissa // May 11, 2011 at 6:46 am

  • 70 Madeleine // May 11, 2011 at 6:48 am

  • 71 Megan // May 11, 2011 at 6:50 am

I was ever-so-briefly in brownies, and did have patches then. But by far the thing I collected the most of was plastic charms for my pimped out charm necklace. Thanks for the chance to win such great prizes!

  • 72 Heather // May 11, 2011 at 6:52 am

I still grab patches when I see them on sale or at garage sales… use them? not as much but they are there if I wanted to!

  • 73 Lee Montgomery-Garvin // May 11, 2011 at 6:57 am

I was a Campfire Girl and the patches were a big deal!! My mom and I were always hassling about how they should be sewn on. I wanted to fill as much area as possible and my mom wanted to sew them on in nice, straight lines. My niece has them now and thinks they are “old fashioned”.

  • 74 molly // May 11, 2011 at 6:57 am

No collection of my own but for some reason I feel nostalgic all the same…

  • 75 Sherilyn Saporito // May 11, 2011 at 7:00 am

I had that rainbow patch. It is definitely from the Brownies. I remember ripping it off my sash and sewing it on my flare jeans in the early ’90s.

  • 76 Sarah Anderson // May 11, 2011 at 7:02 am

No patches but maybe I want to start as an adult…

  • 77 Julie // May 11, 2011 at 7:03 am

When I was a kid, I found a collection of patches from when my uncle was a boy scout in the 60s and 70s. They were big, colorful and even odd (merit badge for mountain-climbing…in Florida??). I ended up sewing almost all of them to a pair of jeans and wore them like I was the coolest kid around. The jeans eventually disintegrated, and I really miss them now, but for a brief period, I was awesome.

  • 78 Sara // May 11, 2011 at 7:05 am

  • 79 ~Heather // May 11, 2011 at 7:10 am

I earned patches as a girl scout, but I was never super into patches.

    Happy Birthday to Ya!

  • 81 jennifer // May 11, 2011 at 7:13 am

no patches for me as a kid. i did have a rainbow hair clip though that i loved to wear.

  • 82 sangeetha // May 11, 2011 at 7:14 am

Never collected patches, but my son does now from his Lowes build and groe workshops and he loves it

  • 83 Melissa // May 11, 2011 at 7:16 am

That rainbow looks like it was ripped off a GS Junior’s vest!

  • 84 Mary Mihaha // May 11, 2011 at 7:17 am

I was a big fan of putting patches on my backpack in middle school, but they were always so time consuming to iron & then stitch on that my enthusiasm quickly died.

  • 85 Becca // May 11, 2011 at 7:25 am

I used to collect patches, but I could never use my favorites. I kept saving them. Finally I made a pillow with a bunch of them.

  • 86 Shailynn // May 11, 2011 at 7:33 am

I collected a few patches, I wasn’t in the girl guides but did get one from Fish & Wildlife when I was in Gr. 8 for completing the wilderness course.

I love rainbows! Our unofficial theme for our wedding (May 28) is Rainbows & Unicorns. :D

  • 87 Jesh // May 11, 2011 at 7:36 am

I’ve never collected patches, and I didn’t become a girl scout until I turned 20 (true story!).

  • 88 Lisa // May 11, 2011 at 7:36 am

I had a Strawberry Shortcake patch that I loved too much to sew onto anything!

  • 89 Sarah K. F. // May 11, 2011 at 7:38 am

I didn’t collect patches as a kid, but my husband did. And now his collection sits in my sewing kit. I’d love to be able to use them in an interesting way. I don’t pull out that kit except to make repairs.

  • 90 ann // May 11, 2011 at 7:41 am

I didn’t really do the patches thing, but did love the shops where you could get your choice of iron-ons put on the t-shirt of your choice. The unicorn and Princess Leia were my favorites.

  • 91 Vickie // May 11, 2011 at 7:43 am

That rainbow patch IS a Girl Scout patch. It is from a Junior level uniform and you have to do a big project to get it. (geeky perhaps, but yes, I liked my patches from 12 years of scouting. I remember most all of them <:) )

  • 92 latenac // May 11, 2011 at 7:47 am

I didn’t collect patches except the girl scout ones I earned. I did collect what the British call “badges” during high school when I was in my Brit pop stage. I had lots of Duran Duran ones and ABC ones.

  • 93 little big // May 11, 2011 at 7:47 am

I never collected patches, but I was an avid sticker collector. Those puffy stickers especially.

  • 94 Rebekah // May 11, 2011 at 7:50 am

Oh, man, I used to have patches all over my denim jackets. I had to have multiple denim jackets I had so many patches!

adorable! my 7th grade backpack was full of all my collected patches.

my sister was the patch collector. happy birthday!

  • 97 trefoil // May 11, 2011 at 8:06 am

I had Girl Guide badges, and a lot of envy for my mom’s collection of 70s patches that she kept in her jewellery box.

  • 98 Katie // May 11, 2011 at 8:13 am

I never collected patches, but I collected enough pencils, stickers, and erasers!

  • 99 Holly C // May 11, 2011 at 8:15 am

the only patches i ever collected were from elementary school, when you got the initials of the school if you participated in enough sports, programs, etc

  • 100 Sarah // May 11, 2011 at 8:15 am

Yes! I was a Brownie and the rainbow patch reminds me of that. But I really collected patches during my teenage punk rock phase. We used to sew them on the butt of our jeans-my mom loved that!

  • 101 Jen D // May 11, 2011 at 8:17 am

I did the whole girl scout thing and had those patches, but never branched out past that.

  • 105 Catie // May 11, 2011 at 8:23 am

I collected patches as a Girl Scout and Brownie! I wonder if my mom still has my sash and vest? Hmm…

  • 106 Krista // May 11, 2011 at 8:26 am

Adorable! I too was in the Girl Scouts so I remember doing the patch thing then. Years later, in middle school, I would cover my backpacks in band patches – terrible ska and pop punk bands, eesh.

  • 107 Wendryn // May 11, 2011 at 8:26 am

I collected patches because I was forever patching my jeans and I liked layering the interesting colors over one another. In retrospect, it may have been a little overwhelming, but I liked it.

    The strawberry is very cute!

  • 114 Amy // May 11, 2011 at 8:39 am

I too was a brownie/girl scout so I have a few from that. Then I moved into my punk rock phase so I collected many band patches during that time as well.

  • 115 Michelle // May 11, 2011 at 8:41 am

Those are all adorable! I have never heard of collecting patches before! I collected stickers (Lisa Frank!) and buttons.

  • 116 Christina // May 11, 2011 at 8:48 am

As a former Brownie and Junior Girl Scout, I most definitely collected patches! In fact, I’m kinda sad there isn’t an adult version. I do collect cycling patches, but no one lets me wear them on a sash anymore.

  • 117 Liz Brochu // May 11, 2011 at 8:50 am

Brownies, girl guides…they both had awesome patches! And I always loved collecting smiley face patches too!

  • 126 Andi // May 11, 2011 at 9:01 am

    No patches for me!

  • 127 Yvonne Herbst // May 11, 2011 at 9:07 am

I didn’t collect patches but buttons. However, I did have a butterfly patch that my Mom sewed on the knee of my jeans that I simply adored :)

  • 128 punkrawkknitter // May 11, 2011 at 9:07 am

I wore my Dad’s old private school jacket for years (even though I was a public school kid) and it had a patch of his old school’s crest. I never really got into patches, a wee bit too permanent. Now Badges/pins on the other hand… my purses were covered!

  • 129 koroshiya // May 11, 2011 at 9:10 am

i didn’t collect patches, but i did collect a huge amount of stickers, along with my mother’s ire for doing so.

  • 130 Rebecca // May 11, 2011 at 9:15 am

I had Brownie patches, too! I was more in to my sticker collection than patches, though, but I did like to buy new patches at the beginning of each school year to add to my bag.

  • 131 April G. // May 11, 2011 at 9:18 am

Cute! I never collected patches, but did collect stickers. Remember Lisa Frank? Oh, the 80s.

  • 132 boogaj // May 11, 2011 at 9:22 am

I remember looking at the patches in my mom’s sewing box as a kid, but I also remember having a jean jacket with patches on it as a teen — mostly bands I liked. Hey, it was the 80’s!

  • 133 Stef // May 11, 2011 at 9:22 am

What a cute giveaway! I never collected patches myself but was always jealous of those girl scout vests covered with patches (:

  • 134 Helen // May 11, 2011 at 9:23 am

I used to love sewing patches on my backpack when I was in high school. My first patch was a Beatles: Let it Be patch.

  • 135 Hanalu // May 11, 2011 at 9:24 am

I was never that interested in patches as a kid but when I was in my teens, they were everywhere. My leather jacket, my schoolbag, my pants, pretty much on anything I could get my hands on.

  • 136 Laura // May 11, 2011 at 9:26 am

    Definitely stickers.

  • 137 Katina // May 11, 2011 at 9:28 am

I collected girl scout patches! I didn’t really enjoy the activities that much, but i really liked “earning” the badges because I thought they were pretty.

    OMG. SO cute!!

  • 139 chrissy // May 11, 2011 at 9:34 am

I had a Thundercats patch that I planned to put over a hole in my favorite sweatshirt, but I never actually did it. I think I still have the patch somewhere.

  • 140 Kate // May 11, 2011 at 9:35 am

Soo cute! I went through a goth period in my early teens and I had tons of band patches….thankfully I’m well over that now!

  • 141 Jen // May 11, 2011 at 9:36 am

I took swim lessons from a Red Cross instructor, and collected patches after completing each level of swim training. After receiving one, my mom would stitch it onto my light blue shiny 70-esque jacket with its banded wrist and waistline. Oh yeahh!!

  • 142 angela // May 11, 2011 at 9:37 am

Yes, patches, buttons, the stickers that come with wheels of cheese, the whole nine yards!

  • 143 MaryWynn // May 11, 2011 at 9:38 am

I was always more of a stickers girl! I had the diary full of amazing stickers, the glitter ones, the fuzzy ones, but my fave were always the scratch-and-sniff ones.

  • 144 Kelly // May 11, 2011 at 9:45 am

I had a rainbow patch just like this. My childhood bedroom was green grass carpet, sky blue walls, and rainbows. Brings back lots of memories!

I never collected patches…I was more into playing Legos and building forts with my brother!

  • 146 Anna // May 11, 2011 at 9:51 am

I’ll have to check schmancy out since I’m relatively nearby. I never collected patches, although I’ve cultivated an extensive pin collection. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I was pretty hip in high school with my backpack covered in buttons of all types. Thanks for the giveaway!

Patches, no. Scratch and sniff stickers, oh yes!

Oh my gosh, I was crazy for patches in middle/high school to put on my backpack. Lots of nostalgic faux-60s stuff. (this was the 90s!) Loving the gift pack today!

  • 152 Dana // May 11, 2011 at 10:08 am

Only Girl Scout patches. The collector in me always want those neat ones from the national parks.

  • 153 jen // May 11, 2011 at 10:15 am

LOVE patches and the tradition continues w/ the kids who are accumulating several, the latest being NASA mission patches. Now to figure out where to put them!

  • 154 Kat // May 11, 2011 at 10:17 am

I was a Girl Scout until Sr. Cadettes and every year we would go to the border between WA state and Canada to trade various patches and pins once a year at the Peace Arch as a a gesture of goodwill. I still have some of them!

  • 155 Rachel // May 11, 2011 at 10:19 am

I didn’t collect patches as a kid but I do as an adult now when I travel sometimes :)

  • 156 Tena // May 11, 2011 at 10:20 am

I love the rainbow! It does remind me of my scouting days – I was in GS for years (all the way to the Gold Award) and have collected all types of patches. I am currently moving my patches from a jacket and sash onto a quilt so I can enjoy them more. I’m doing it by hand. That’s the not-so-fun part. But I will enjoy it when it’s done!!

  • 157 Heather // May 11, 2011 at 10:24 am

I was a girl scout forever, and got some badges, but my mom never remembered to sew them on my vest-y thing. I think I tried glueing them (before hot glue came into my life) and they fell off!

  • 175 Frances // May 11, 2011 at 11:29 am

I earned patches as a Girl Scout in the 70’s, I also collected patches to remember different field trips. I continue to collect patches to commemorate a vacation or outing.
I also have a Mork and Mindy patch that is too special to sew onto anything!

  • 176 Veronica // May 11, 2011 at 11:30 am

  • 177 danielle // May 11, 2011 at 11:35 am

  • 178 mel // May 11, 2011 at 11:36 am

I did Girl Scouts as a kid and collected a good many patches through that. In regular life, too though. I would scour craft stores while my mom bought her things and find the coolest patches, appliques and beads.

  • 181 Jen H. // May 11, 2011 at 11:48 am

I did not collect patches, but my Mom used to put them on my osh kosh overalls when I was a little kid. I collected stickers! Especially sparkly stickers, rainbows, unicorns, pegasus, kitties, scratch ’n’ sniff, etc!

  • 182 Michelle // May 11, 2011 at 11:54 am

Yes I collected flower patches during my teen years. I still have a pair of jeans with a rose patch stitched to the leg.

  • 183 Dawn Richardson // May 11, 2011 at 11:59 am

I didn’t collect them as a little kid, but as a punk rock teenager I collected (and screen printed) enough patches of bands and political statements to completely cover several pairs of pants and jackets.

  • 184 Sarah // May 11, 2011 at 12:01 pm

When I was in high school I used to wear an old pair of my mom’s jeans that she had saved for decades…they were covered in patches she had collected, which I thought was so cool!

  • 185 Elin // May 11, 2011 at 12:04 pm

My mom used to stitch patches on the knees my jeans if they got torn. Other than that, I use patches on my DIY bags ;) Patches are awesome !

  • 186 ally // May 11, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I used to have brownie patches and also patches from a church group called AWANA that were on a little red vest. I have them all in a little cedar treasure box along with a whole bunch of those buttons we all used to wear on our jean jackets! I would love to be entered in this drawing..Schmancy is so cute!

  • 187 Catie // May 11, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I never had patches but I did collect buttons when I was a kid! The big buttons that say things like “I support X”. I pinned them all on a big ribbon in my room!

  • 188 Robyn // May 11, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I collected (earned) patches as a girlscout when I was a kid. And that rainbow on the bag is a girlscout patch!

  • 189 Irit // May 11, 2011 at 12:27 pm

Patches are about the only thing that I DIDN’T collect as a kid (I had collections of stationery, napkins, stamps, thimbles, unique matchboxes, soda cans, vintage perfume bottles, and many many more).

Hmm. I wonder why that is.

  • 190 Jen // May 11, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I was a Girl Scout for 12 years! Love the bridge patch! (I think Junior to Cadette had a rainbow bar…I don’t remember if there even was a patch for Cadette to Senior.)

  • 191 Amanda // May 11, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I was a deprived child and never collected patches/was never a girlscout. I did collect pins though, and stickers! :)

  • 193 Sammy G. // May 11, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Oh my goodness – YES! My mom was a terrific sewer – still is, but I had 6 siblings during the 70s “patch phase”, and we all had “patch jackets.” My mom collected patches wherever she went, and I remember us all having our patch jackets during a camping trip one year…I’m not sure who has the photos now, but back then my dad worked in NYC & my mom stayed home with kids, and we’d go for a 2 week camping jaunt (with tent!) every summer. That particular year it was cold & rainy & we were somewhere in upstate NY (@1976/1977) and our entire family of 9 showcased those jackets! Good times, good times…

  • 194 Kara // May 11, 2011 at 12:58 pm

I never really collected patches, though I had a few as a kid that I got from camps, etc. I was afraid they’d get ruined if I attached them to anything, though, so I kept them safely in a box with other keepsakes.

  • 205 Tara // May 11, 2011 at 1:50 pm

I Totally need to check that store out sometime. I definitely collected patches as a kid (I was a girl scout all through school and even as an adult helper during college) but besides that I collected them on various road trips… state ones etc.

  • 206 Elis // May 11, 2011 at 1:51 pm

I never collected patches as a child but when I was in college I bought an army surplus back pack and put a bunch of patches all over it. It was the kind with a metal frame along the back and boy was it stinky. I sprayed and scrubbed it and aired it out, but the smell still lingered. I wish I still had it and the patches,

  • 222 Michelle // May 11, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Can I admit that I’m currently collecting the patches my kids get from the Lowe’s Build and Grow clinics? I snatch them up as soon as they set them down, telling them mommy’s keeping them safe so they won’t get lost. We all know I’ll take better care of them than they will, and I’m the one who drives them to the classes anyway, right?!

  • 250 Jenny // May 11, 2011 at 8:21 pm

I never saw many patches as a kid, but I did collect buttons and pins!

  • 251 Katie // May 11, 2011 at 8:25 pm

My favorite patch that I will never be able to part with is a Happy Bunny patch. I have had if for nearly a decade and I am still looking for the perfect place for it where I will not change my mind. I love that sassy rabbit!

  • 252 jennifer // May 11, 2011 at 8:29 pm

my baby girl just turned 8 this week and i think she’d love to share this give away with me, thanks megan!

  • 253 Michelle // May 11, 2011 at 9:03 pm

I didn’t collect patches, though I would collect sequins that I would find on the floor of department stores. :) I would love to win this cute prize!

  • 254 Abril // May 11, 2011 at 9:06 pm

    Very cute

  • 255 Jillian // May 11, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I’m with the Brownie gang – those are the only patches that I remember from my youth. More recently, I found the trail patches for Rocky Mountain National Park and thought hiking and collecting those patches would be a kick.

  • 256 Brady // May 11, 2011 at 9:28 pm

    Totally rad stuff yo.

  • 257 Abby-Sophia // May 11, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I never had patches as a child, but I did find some “dirty” patches as a teenager. They were from the 70’s so they were more funny than inappropriate. Coincidentally I had three patches from a local non-profit that takes children’s artwork and turns them into patches. Just yesterday I backed them with magnetic sheets and three new magnets were born!

  • 258 Haylie // May 11, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I love strawberry! They look so cute!

  • 259 sandy // May 11, 2011 at 10:53 pm

That was my first thought when you mentioned patches… I used to be in Brownies/GG too!

I had several patches as a kid, the most prized being my soccer patches. Mostly collected stickers and certainly had a few rainbows!

  • 262 Lisa // May 11, 2011 at 11:17 pm

Now that I think of it, I had all kinds of patches — starting with Girl Scouts and going through high school band. None as pretty as that lovely little rainbow, though!

  • 263 Heather // May 11, 2011 at 11:28 pm

Oh this stuff looks great!! I’ve been nostalgic for rainbows recently and late 70s / early 80s colors.

  • 264 Christina R. // May 11, 2011 at 11:34 pm

    No patches for me :)

  • 265 Little Miss S. // May 12, 2011 at 12:04 am

I’ve never collected patches, but I do love that rainbow.

  • 266 Stephanie S // May 12, 2011 at 12:17 am

I loved patches. I had Brownie patches on my sash and I had a denim jacket with “cool” patches and a book bag with patches from family vacations. Yeah, I grew up in the 80s.

  • 267 Cupcakewatson // May 12, 2011 at 1:50 am

Best patches were definitely Girl Scouts, but I love me some Quirky patches for sewing over the holes in vintage quilts!

  • 268 debra t. // May 12, 2011 at 3:16 am

I stole my sister’s camp fire patches.

  • 269 AG // May 12, 2011 at 3:17 am

    Collected some geeky patches…

  • 270 Jessica // May 12, 2011 at 3:28 am

My older brother collected patches so I pretty much just pretended his collection was mine :)
I’ve heard about Schmancy and I can’t wait to check it out when I’m in Seattle this summer!

  • 271 janin // May 12, 2011 at 3:52 am

Is it 10am yet? I never collected patches, only stickers.

  • 272 Jackie // May 12, 2011 at 4:57 am

The best patch I had was a New Kids on the Block patch I wore on my blue jean jacket when I was 13ish.

  • 273 Jamie // May 12, 2011 at 5:13 am

Do 4-H and Girl Scout badges count? because if so, then yes!

  • 274 Leta // May 12, 2011 at 5:28 am

    Schmancy is so cool!

  • 275 linz // May 12, 2011 at 6:00 am

Not so much patches as pins from my brother’s band and the bands he liked. Hero worship much? :)

  • 276 Whitney // May 12, 2011 at 6:53 am

other than when i was in brownies i haven’t collected patches. I still have a pretty huge pin collection though from when i was a kid.

that package looks really fun! would love to win

  • 277 Lisa // May 12, 2011 at 7:16 am

I would’ve collected patches if they were that cute!

  • 278 meaghan // May 12, 2011 at 7:19 am

very cute items. i collected patches while backpacking to put on my bag. with a little 2 year old my backpacking days are long over. but now i could patches on his backpack someday.

  • 279 Pam // May 12, 2011 at 7:23 am

I LOVE patches, I have a small collection.

  • 280 Sandra // May 12, 2011 at 7:33 am

I collected a few patches in high school (I never cared that much about earning badges in girl scouts), but mostly I was into embroidering my backpack. Not well, mind you, but I had a great time.

  • 281 Shannon // May 12, 2011 at 7:46 am

I haven’t ever collected them, but I’ve always loved them! I used to want a backpack covered in them.

  • 282 Anna // May 12, 2011 at 8:45 am

I did Girl Scouts, so my love of patches goes way back – but more importantly, I also fell in love with Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was in HS and was constantly putting RHPS patches on everything I owned.

  • 283 Martha Metzler-Ghofranian // May 12, 2011 at 8:56 am

I LOVED patches as a kid. i had several pairs of jeans that i would have my mom put patches on. i actually am on the search for the perfect patch right now for a jacket that got a hole in it from a beach bon fire!

  • 284 Rachel // May 12, 2011 at 8:57 am

I use to have a ton of patches. I was a rockin girl scout. :)

  • 285 Kristin // May 12, 2011 at 9:01 am

I had some girl scout patches but my kids have patches from everywhere, for everything.

  • 286 Faith // May 12, 2011 at 9:13 am

    I love patches!

  • 287 Leslie // May 12, 2011 at 10:03 am

I tore holes in my jeans so my mom would fix them with cool patches.

  • 288 Kiri // May 12, 2011 at 10:15 am

I had brownies badges, and girl guide ones. I think I still have my gnome patch from brownies around somewhere actually.

  • 289 Laura // May 12, 2011 at 10:16 am

No patches, but I still have my monstrous collection of keychains!
