Seattle is bracing itself for snow (even a little brings our city to a halt) and it’s been overcast and gray most of the day. I slipped out to grab some emergency food supplies (you know – sour cream, beer, chips) and the only green I saw was on the insides of Scott’s new shoes.

Green is also uncharacteristically all over the traffic map at peak commute time!

In Boston, we call it the french toast run. It’s silly, because unless it is an ice storm, nothing has been so bad that you cannot be out and about and to a grocery store within a day, but these habits die hard!

Seanna – In Ohio where we had lots of snow plows and, much to the dismay of school aged kids, we were usually plowed up by sun up. But here in Seattle we get snow so rarely that the combination of the city not quite knowing how to deal with it resulting in icy streets and nobody knowing how (or not) to drive in it means that we really can get trapped. Two years ago we were essentially snowbound in our house for ten days with only eight inches of snow. If we hadn’t stocked up we would have been pretty unhappy. So, while I do poke fun at the milk-bread-eggs people I also know that in Seattle it means people are being realistic. Still, our house remains more of the emergency chips-guacamole-beer stockers :)

I just love your blog. I am also from Boston(hello Seanna!) and we’ve had 6 feet of snow fall since December!

It is a dream o f mine to someday live in Seattle, and the thought of less snow is so appealing.
