Not Martha

photos from the Altitude Design Summit

Oops, I put together these pictures ages ago and completely forgot to post them. I didn’t manage to get many photos from the Altitude Design Summit, but here they are anyhow.

[ Design Mom wearing my flower pin while introducing Project Runway alums! ]

Here is Gabrielle Blair wearing on of my felt dahlia pins while introducing Mondo and Seth Aaron from Project Runway. Thrilling! I can hardly believe she was one of the organizers for this conference, a tremendous amount of work, and weeks later moved her whole family to France. Her tour of the amazing house that they’ve rented have been fantastic.

Project Runway’s Seth Aaron (a WA resident!) and Mondo. Awesome.

[ shiny red keyboard with a double happiness symbol on the Enter key ]

HP was showing off some of their computer designs and I loved this double happiness symbol on a netbook designed by Vivienne Tam.

[ my feet in my sort-of Victorian boots ]

My feet while sitting on the floor at a panel (I crept in late and all the seats were taken).

Amazing sunset #1.

[ shots of tequila with tall cold beers ]

Tequila and beers!

[ yellow balls of butter next to a menu decorated with yellow balls ]

I like how the butter matches the menu. This is just before getting to hear DJ Spooky speak.

[ blazing sunset #2 ]

Amazing sunset #2.

[ Flexicord holding my iPhone at a movie viewing angle ]

This is a Flexicord mini iPhone cord. It’s flexible but stays put so it works as a stand, as well as a USB cord for your iPhone. The Good:I love it for travel as it’s compact none of my other iPhone stands hold my iPhone at an angle for movie watching while in an airplane seat. The Bad: I used one as an iPhone cord in my living room for a while and it didn’t stand up to more than three months of use before the wires became separated. (To be fair, it’s no more or less than the wear and tear on the cord that came with the iPhone before that split as well.) One Flexicord lives in my travel case and so far so good.

[ individual packet of peanut butter, crackers, granola and banana chips ]

I always pack too much food for travel, I like having a quick breakfast that I don’t have to leave the room for. I’m cranky in the mornings and taking away the detail of finding food in the mornings takes away a lot of the stress of travel.

[ felt flower petals cut out ]

I might or might not have stayed up late the night before my panel making a small felt flower pin using scissors I packed and the room’s sewing kit.

So I love that you *made* the flowers at the hotel! What a great way to brighten up a jacket.

BUT, what enquiring minds really want to know is what boots are you wearing because they look spectacular!

Inquiring minds are ALSO quite curious about the idea of single serve peanut butter packets. That might just be the answer to some of my life’s less pressing questions…

I agree! Tell us about them boots!

I’m totally addicted to Somersaults right now. They’re my 10am snack almost every day!

Absqatulate – To be clear I only made the little pink one, the larger one was part of the original Mother’s Day dahlia’s last year. I’m not that crazy :)

Hunter – I found it at my local natural foods grocery. I think it’s meant for packed lunch but I *love* it as the packet keeps it from getting messy. Otherwise, I don’t know where to find it other than online, their site lists major grocery chains but they also make jarred nut butters. They have a bunch of varieties, include almond and some with chocolate and, yay!, chocolate hazelnut.

Ellen and Absqatulate – The boots are good, very very comfortable. But not fashionable this year so I was hesitant to show them off. They are La Canadienne, very soft leather, grippy soles and waterproof. I’d heard a lot of great things about La Canadienne boots but they are expensive, these were on sale as they are discontinuing the style (they have a similar style to replace it). These are the Tahra, and if you search there are a few places other than Zappos that offer the sale price but have more sizes left. The Ramona is the newer version which I found had a narrower calf and pointier toes.

Utah’s my homestate – I grew up with those sunsets! Hoping to get to Alt next year – love the organizers and love the location.

Megan, Did you get some new boots? Love the kitten heel!

  • 8 megan // Feb 22, 2011 at 3:59 pm

Sprizee – Yes, one pair with the low heels and another that are flat. Lots more skirt wearing this winter because of them.

My husband and I want to know if you were staying at the convention hotel (TGA) or somewhere else. He thinks you were staying up by the U and think that would have just been silly.

The Ravenna Girls – go! It’s great.

Barbara – I was indeed at The Grand America, though I waited too long to get a hotel and when I looked *everything* in SLC was booked (Sundance was the adjoining weekend) so I nearly stayed at a hotel a ways away.

That flower pin is adorable! (I’m a sucker for 5 petal flowers.)

Seth Aaron is a god in my books, did you get to meet him!??
