Not Martha

I finished the striped scarf! It’s super long (I was going for the skinny scarf look) and very soft. Now I have to find some Bernat Illusion so I can start in on Kate’s Topsecret sweater at Knitty. I think it will be the perfect first sweater. Anyone know where I could find some? I’m not having luck with Google when it comes to a combination of the color I want and the lack of a minimum order. Can it be found at a chain store like Michaels?

May I point you to Willa’s Halloween Weblog? which always has good stuff. Digs Magazine had a feature recently on costumes. I have two costume ideas – one is being the black and white Dorothy (you know, before she gets to Oz). A little make-up intensive maybe, but would be fun. And the other drunken (I hope) idea was to get one of those clip-on shoulder parrots, some wire rim glasses, a carrier full of all sorts of strange stuffed animals, and go as Marc Morrone, with no offense intended, I totally love that guy.

I’m looking for blank band-aid tins. You know those hinge top tins which our Tweety Bird band-aids used to come in? (And may still I’m not sure.) I’ve tried the usual suspects and had no luck, not even Impress Rubber Stamps has ’em. I found one at Flax but just one.

Knitty is here! And it’s great! Immediately I needed to make the sweater on the first page. And the Vegan Fox is adorable.

While taking a much needed shopping trip to Flax with the divine Shannon (aka miss dogmestic) the other day I picked up an apron made by Utility Canvas, a company which makes cool stuff and great bags. I know this sounds uber picky but I love that the apron doesn’t have a loop which goes around the back of my neck, that drives me crazy. My goal was to get some papers to cover my boring lightswitch covers with, but there was too much there and feeling overwhelmed I ended up getting nothing. Shannon also gifted me with a delightful little accordian book, in colors which I have found myself drawn to lately, red and orange. Is this a sign?

I tend to have unpopular taste preferences, ones which rarely include chocolates, so take it as you will when I say that Godiva’s Pumpkin Patch Truffles are very very good.

A little while back Mena mentioned that it looked like Lush was planning on opening a store in San Francisco (the job listings were for a store manager in SF). I have not heard anything since, does anyone know if it’s true?

It appears that a few LiveJournal people posted my jello fruit recipe to thier sites, the instructions and the images. I’m flattered, really, but the images are being loaded directly from my server and it’s putting a lot of strain on it, not to mention the troubles I may get in paying for the extra traffic. If you have the jello fruit recipe up on your LiveJournal, please take it down. You are welcome to repost the recipe with a link back to this site, but please don’t use the images. Thanks.

Have I mentioned how much I appreciate the inexpensive red wine suggestions from Nobody’s Fool? When we lived in the apartment in the city our not very elegant but often on sale for $3.99 secret weapon was Corbett Canyon merlot. Acceptable for daily dinner, especially when dinner is macaroni and cheese from a box.
