I saw a picture of something like these on a flyer for the new Martha Stewart book best of Halloween and decided to make a bunch for the office. I found the greatest crepe paper at Flax - it's double-sided dark and light orange and fairly stiff so I only had the use one layer. I found some plastic flies and cockroaches at one of those itinerent halloween stores and got both fuzzy and sparkly pipe cleaners. I think they turned out really cute. And I like that it has to be ripped open.
I cut the paper to 5" by 9" - because the sheets came at about 50" x 10" so I got ten pumpkins out of each sheet. I would have like closer to 6 or 7" high to make it rounder, but I liked the way the squat little pumpkins look. Also, I next itme I won't add curls to each one, especially if they are to be presented as a group (in this case I'm planning on dropping one on a desk so I like the stem curl). I had a hard time finding the orange crepe, actually. It is sold in craft stores in sheets like tissue paper, but I couldn't find any place that carried orange. There are a bunch of places to find packages of sheets of crepe online (which I will undoubtedly find sometime later). But I ran out of time to order them. What I did find is Gloria brand double-sided crepe paper, made in Germany. Each package holds one 25 x 125 cm sheet. I havn't tried it yet, but I bet this paper would make very good crepe paper flowers. I love orange. |

These are so cute. I will have to try them some time.

Here's a website that sells a very nice type of crepe paper. I too couldn't find the german double-sided crepe paper.
http://www.blumchen.com/craft_shop_crepe_fancy_paper.html This is high quality and is pretty stiff which I think is what you're looking for. Prices are fair, too. :)

I called Flax Art & Design (in San Francisco) 415-552-2355 and they are shipping me the Gloria double sided crepe paper!! It's only $1.80 a pack. (HA! Martha wants $12 for her double sided crepe paper!) They get it directly from the manufacturer in Germany and currently have it in fuschia, spring green and yellow/cream.
Perfect for making those pretty spring crepe paper flowers! Just wanted to pass along the info.

I found the double-sided crepe paper online at Kim's Crane http://www.kimscrane.com.
They are in the process of moving and will not be shipping until the end of April 2008.

I had to laugh... I saw Martha's new Halloween kits that are sort of like these. I was so P-O'd because I thought MSO had ripped you off.
Then I checked out your site again and see that you had been inspired by Martha's project! LOL
