I cut the paper to 9" x 5" with the ribbing running up and down

I ran my fingers along the lenghth (perpendicular to the grain) which made it bow out

wrapped it into a tube with the right side in and folded the edges togther

gathered one end

tied it with string

used some cheesy tape to secure it

carefully turned inside out

stretched it into shape
filled it with goodies

got half of a pipe cleaner

gathered the top

secured it shut

covered the end with floral tape

twisted the pipe cleaner around a pencil

ta da!

I saw a picture of something like these on a flyer for the new Martha Stewart book best of Halloween and decided to make a bunch for the office. I found the greatest crepe paper at Flax - it's double-sided dark and light orange and fairly stiff so I only had the use one layer. I found some plastic flies and cockroaches at one of those itinerent halloween stores and got both fuzzy and sparkly pipe cleaners. I think they turned out really cute. And I like that it has to be ripped open.

I cut the paper to 5" by 9" - because the sheets came at about 50" x 10" so I got ten pumpkins out of each sheet. I would have like closer to 6 or 7" high to make it rounder, but I liked the way the squat little pumpkins look. Also, I next itme I won't add curls to each one, especially if they are to be presented as a group (in this case I'm planning on dropping one on a desk so I like the stem curl).

I had a hard time finding the orange crepe, actually. It is sold in craft stores in sheets like tissue paper, but I couldn't find any place that carried orange. There are a bunch of places to find packages of sheets of crepe online (which I will undoubtedly find sometime later). But I ran out of time to order them. What I did find is Gloria brand double-sided crepe paper, made in Germany. Each package holds one 25 x 125 cm sheet. I havn't tried it yet, but I bet this paper would make very good crepe paper flowers.

I love orange.
