FYI on the Brussels Sprouts salad front: Trader Joe’s sells shredded b.sprouts now. I just spotted them this weekend, so that would help with any trepidation over using a mandolin there. Or maybe it’s just me-who-cut-off-part-of-a-thumb?

That is most excellent to know! I threw away my little ceramic mandolin because I was scared of it. I’ve recently discovered the joy of slicing/shredding in my food processor, it makes storing that giant thing worth it (just if that helps sway anybody in a big purchase, sorry).

I love the spiral cut weiner, but I am picturing all of my guy friends wincing at even the thought.
