The Subversive Charm of Day Drinking – NYTimes.com. I linking to this for the Bartender Rock 101 list at the bottom, but the recipe for The Jessica drink looks awfully nice. Via The Hairpin.

more great links, one and all. Thanks!
I agree the lego girls are horrid, day drinking can be nice sometimes, and – yay – popcorn can be healthy!

Thank you for sharing the Lego link: worth seeing, though somewhat depressing.

Thanks for sharing the Lego link. She perfectly expresses my feelings on these ridiculous new “girl” Legos. (Because apparently the regular ones are “boy” Legos? Good thing no one told me and my sisters that when we were playing with them constantly as kids. Deep sigh.)

The “Day Drinking” drink in the article — I believe she called it “the Jessica” — we made it last week. It is delish, you should definitely give it a shot. Fair warning, though — potent. Maybe a little *too* potent for Day Drinking, unless you’ve got more willpower than I do…

Thanks for the Lively Ivy link. We want to make sure our little girl gets to play with whatever she wants to, not what manufacturers/society says little girls should play with.

I heard about the new “girl” legos, but hadn’t seen them. Geez. I’m really hoping my family knows me (and my daughter) well enough not to grace us with those. We didn’t get her the pink Duplos, and when she graduates to regular Legos we absolutely won’t be getting these.

I’m with you on Lego! I loved the “Boy” stuff when I was a kid. I guess I just didn’t know any better.

Trust me when I say “the Jessica” should be made with Hendricks. Also, if you substitute fresh lime juice it is the nectar of the god. Baccus, that is.

I saw stamen give a great presentation a week or two. Swoon. These maps are actually not that hard to set up if you know javascript.

JennyA – Thanks for the warning! I’ll pick a sunny afternoon and invite some friends over and test it out :)

    Rebecca – Great tips, thanks!

nazila – Great to know, I have one of those javascript magicians in my house.
