The Best Generic Beauty Products You Should Know About – Makeup, Skin Care & Hair – MSN Lifestyle. I’m looking specifically at the Umberto Beverly Hills Volumizer Thickening Spray from Target that they recommend here.

What are your favorite eyeshadow/makeup tutorials? | Ask MetaFilter. The answers here hit all of my favorites and all the ones recommended by friends.

The Audrey Hepburn Makeover | The Hairpin. This makeover cues my eyebrow envy. I saw a very eyebrow-y Greek preteen with her whole Greek family last week, she was striking but seemed very awkward and I immediately made up a whole story where she grows very tall in the next year and ends up as a famous model by age 19 and eventually succumbs to drugs only to hit rehab and be a Bond girl in her mid-twenties. I may have been overthinking it.

Fallen Princess: Andrea Linett Book Alert!. Oooh, my favorite Sassy editor tells me about another Sassy writer’s upcoming book. I hug the internet while at the same time wishing it would make more money for everybody.

Are Crest White Strips worth it? | Ask MetaFilter. I refuse to give up coffee and red wine, so teeth whitening will be a part of what I do.

how to manicure at home – Petit Elefant. I’m so bad about keeping my cuticles oiled up, but Allison gives me hope that I will be able to do justice to an at home manicure.

My 12-year-old wants to get her ears pierced, and I’m wondering about the pros and cons of having it done at a doctor’s office versus at the mall. | Ask MetaFilter. I had my uneven ears pierced unevenly at a mall when I was 11 and the result is a 1/4-inch difference. After having my ears re-pierced at a body piercing shop a few years ago I agree with the majority of this thread and would recommend a piercing place many times over a mall place, edgy shop appearance and all.

Spa Week is next week, April 16th to 20th. I never thought I’d be a spa person but getting a massage (that I paid for) at Camp Mighty last year and having a half massage/half moisturizing treatment at Penterra Spa in Kirkland (WA) this week (which was soooooo good and, full disclosure, complimentary) I think I’m gonna have to admit I’m a convert. During Spa Week you can get $50 treatments which is a nice bargain. If you’re on the fence I encourage you to try it while the price is good. Which is next week so get on that!

Same thing happened with my ear peircing! Then I decided to get them done twice (so I had two holes, you know, this was cool in the 90’s) and they were even worse! So I have 4 holes in my ears that are wonky.

Anyway, you got them redone? how did that work? I always thought it would just make the original hole bigger and cause problems.

I like the -idea- of spa week, being a big fan of the local restaurant weeks, etc.
However, that website is terrible. It won’t let me search or click on anything without popping up a registration screen you cannot exit from or click out of. This forced ‘membership’ to something I haven’t been able to even look at puts a sour taste in my mouth, and makes me skeptical of what they may do with my info if I actually signed up.
Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll just try to find a spa on my own with google.

Oh, you just gave me so much beauty fodder to write about – thank you!! Love your links, as always!

I like the generic lists, but a bunch don’t apply to Canada.
We have our own brands, too, and I’m still curious about what’s worthwhile from the Joe Fresh line, for instance.

Katrina – Yuck, I’m so sorry the website was bad. I’ve taken the link down, please accept my apologies.

Jenny – I should say I had the same holes repierced, not moved. In my case they had nearly closed up. I have to stick to silver and gold metals, cheap ones will irritate me and cause and infection, but I’m happy now. I find that a lot of the hand made earrings from Etsy sellers and the like often are a little uneven and they can even out the difference in the heights of my earlobes :)

It would not have even occured to me that doctors pierced ears. Aren’t doctors busy enough with actual health concerns?

Mine were pierced at a mall beauty salon with a gun when I was 10, and though I wouldn’t have thought of getting earlobes done at a piercing studio before reading that thread, it makes sense to me having read it now.

I love your compendiums of information – you’re my web curator. The generic product list alone is a great find!

I thought about you and your home manicure quest when I ran across a manicure post by MotorCityMoxie. She links to instructions on how to clean up the cuticle line after polishing: http://motorcitymoxie.com/feminine-allure-2-no-chip-lasting-manicure/

I’d never seen instructions on how to do this–it’s amazing, if difficult to master.

Thank you for the reminder that I need to re-whiten my teeth. I’ve used the 5-minute white stuff (yay cheap!) in the past with excellent results.
    :)

So I went ahead and scheduled a facial penterra spa without using the website first. I just called and asked. They scheduled it without having to deal with an unruly website. Thx for the great find. :)

Love your blog :) This is the easiest smokey eye tutorial I have ever found. It has saved me during some really tired days to camouflage the under-eye circles. Hope you enjoy!
