Does Indiana Jones count as a super hero? Because my little brother and I played Indiana Jones a lot. We did a lot of stunt moves; the ducking out of the garage while the door is closing (while still taking care to jump over the safety infrared beam) was a favorite.

Does solving mysteries count as superhero cred? If not then ROCKING OUT should fill in the gaps…Josie and the Pussycats! And of course, I wanted to be Josie, mostly because of the pastel guitars. I remember coveting their cat-ear headbands!

So, as a child I wasn’t allowed to watch really any TV, and didn’t read comic books. That said, my favorite “superhero” would have to be Tatterhood, star of a Norwegian story that I had a couple illustrated versions of. She defeated hobgoblins, rescued her sister, and didn’t need to be “saved by a REAL (man) hero” at any point.

And she ended up with magic powers.

I loved, like really LOVED, Aquaboy (I think he was Aquaman’s nephew, or something). We couldn’t get TV where I lived, but we spent one summer in Seattle, when I was 7 or so, and I watched cartoons every morning. This is when I discovered my first great passion. That summer, when I lost a tooth, I asked the tooth fairy to bring me Aquaboy instead of a quarter. She let me down.

A lot of the time I would make up my own superheros. Not that I didn’t want to be Batman like a lot of other kids my age, but there’s something to be said for inventing your own character and back story. Guess that’s why I got into drawing comics!

By the way, Kirby Krackle is amazing! I’ll admit I do already own “E for Everyone” and plan on giving that to my brother because I need to indoctrinate him into Krackledom. (Still need that first album, though) :-)

When I was a kid, my favorite superhero was Spider-Man. From VHS tapes of the old cartoon to the “new” cartoons they were showing on Fox Kids in the 90s, Spider-Man had everything a kid could ever hope for: Action, humor and action. In fact, the first comic book I ever bought was a Spider-Man comic and I can remember the exact grocery store where I bought it.

There was just something about how Peter Parker became Spider-Man that, as a kid, made me always feel like being a superhero wasn’t *that* impossible. Like MAYBE I could be bitten by a radioactive spider and get powers myself. The possibility enchanted me and still manages to fill me with a childlike wonder whenever I read comic books today.

For obvious reasons, I would love to win either/both of the albums, as Kirby Krackle rocks faces off, and, as far as I’m concerned, faces are overrated. Thanks for giving me a chance to remember what it is I love about comic books. Always fun to reflect like that.

Yeah, I would spin around in my grandma’s yard until I fell down, because someday there would be a time where it would work and I’d totally transform into Wonder Woman. *sigh* Maybe someday. I also loved He-Man and She-Ra, and I’m not sure if the Thundercats count, but I was way into them. My husband and I couldn’t agree on a good comic book name for our daughter, so she’s named Hero (convenient that my fave Shakespeare play is Much Ado About Nothing, so that’s our official story of where her name is from).
