The beach glass machine – Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories. Having visited Glass Beach last year and found it lacking in glass bits big enough to actually collect from having been picked over, I find this awesome.
The Evolution of the Starbucks Logo. Does anybody else think this looks like the Starbucks mermaid is (cue dramatic music) coming for you? Like in an Angels from the current Dr. Who sort of way?

The new Zodiac, at Kottke. According to this shift I’m actually a Virgo, which fits me much better than Libra. update: Oh wait, nothing has actually changed. Or something.

I did a blog post about this change here (including a description of the changes): http://www.livingmividaloca.com/2011/01/starbucks-new-logo-and-view-of-ones.html
p.s. did you know that they are planning to add beer and wine to their offerings?

I know that the zodiac and astrology don’t really mean anything. Despite that, according to the old charts and descriptions of the signs I’m a poster child for Gemini. I’m going to keep considering myself this sign even if it doesn’t mean anything. Weird extra zodiac sign can stay where it is!

I’ve never put much stock in astrology, especially since the characteristics of my previous sign (Aries) seemed to match up exactly with the traits seen in firstborn children (which I am).
I love it that there’s actually 13 signs, and the 12 signs currently used in “modern” astrology are based on 30-degree sections of the night sky, not where the sun actually was in the sky on the day you were born.
The weird part is that my new sign – Pisces – really does fit me better than Aries.
It’s not that the zodiac “changed” – it’s that astrology doesn’t mean anything anyway and if you want a real sun chart done, don’t look at the newspaper.

Too funny! “Don’t blink!” Would love to hear your thoughts on Matt Smith (I love him as the Doctor).

It does look like the camera focus is getting tighter and tighter on the mermaid. The next thing you know, we’re just going to see her neck and collarbones in the shot…

Ha, ha. Don’t blink in Starbucks! Just one more reason not to go there.

Oh now I will not be able to look at the new Starbucks logo without shuddering. Thanks for that. :)

You’re right, the mermaid just keeps getting closer and closer. Ahhh!

Haha! That’s hilarious about the Starbucks mermaid. Watch, her facial expression’s gonna get more sinister in the next incarnation.

Was thinking about a new laptop bag to go with the Alienware that I have on order, but may stick to the old bag and plaster it with nerd merit badges. Thanks for the link!

That is exactly what I thought when I saw the new logo! Especially because a bunch of the posts about it have that picture with the cups getting closer and closer. Don’t. Blink.

Yeah, now that you mention it! Next thing we’ll see is just her face and fangs! Don’t blink!
Great Doctor Who reference!

Pattie – I do know that, here in Seattle they have a few concept cafes that are unbranded which serve beer and wine. Sadly they seem to have closely copied the design and feel from a popular established cafe and so lots of us here chose not to support the business.

the Dr. Who reference was priceless and worth delurking for. I really enjoy your blog, have been reading for months but never commented!

Starbucks claims she is not a mermaid at all, but rather a SIREN. Which is much more sinister.
