First thing you should know is that this restaurant is owned by my awesome neighbors so I admit to being biased. St. Dames is new restaurant in Rainier Valley, to be more specific it’s half a block north of the Columbia City light rail stop. They’re open for dinner and brunch on weekends. They have big booths, a full bar and really delicious food. A confession: I didn’t realize it was a vegetarian place until we were half finished with our meal. Many of the menu offerings were vegan.
We stopped for a Sunday brunch and I had biscuits and mushroom gravy, a hangover worthy breakfast, and Scott had a breakfast burrito which I had to stop myself from stealing too much of. Most of the food, from chorizo to breads, is made in house and that mimosa you see there had fresh squeezed juice and it was like being on a little vacation. I’ve seen the restaurant described as cozy and I’d like to add that it’s not cozy in a cute way, but cozy in that it is a welcoming place to spend a rainy evening.

So they do serve meat there at the restaurant, since you mentioned the (pork) chorizo?

Nope, it is vegetarian chorizo. It was yummy too, I had it mixed in my biscuits and gravy.

Looks great! Not sure when we’ll next make it over to Seattle, but when we do, I’m having that breakfast burrito.

Do you know if they have a lot of vegan options?

You should make the vegetarian chorizo from The Vegetarian Family Table. I have made it a number of times and I archived the recipe when the site was down a week or two ago, because I couldn’t bear not having the recipe.

They definitely have a lot of vegan options. They are willing to make any dish they can vegan, and they are great for gluten free as well. The food is solid. The prices are low, the drinks are good, and the atmosphere is really welcoming. This is an awesome alternative to the Alehouse in Columbia City. Check it out.

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of your blog as I am a new arrival to the Emerald City (yay!). My fiancé is a vegetarian and I’m a bit of a “flextarian” (translation: I eat vegetarian most of the time but am not vegetarian). But we love new restaurant recommendations, especially vegetarian places, so thank you thank you for posting this! I will definitely keep an eye on your blog for future Seattle insights. :)
