Volumizing Dry Shampoo spray

Volumizing Dry Shampoo by Big Sexy Hair. I use this for days when I’m going to be exercising later but I just need to get one thing at the drugstore and don’t want my hair to scream “I have not been washed in at least 24 hours”. It works just great. The directions have you brush it out after a few minutes but I usually just spray it on like hairspray and leave it.

Puzzle Bots game

Puzzle Bots. This really delightful and funny point and click adventure game from indie developer Erin Robinson is now available from Steam for $4.99. I was sent a review copy and played part of the way through before finding it had a time limit, oops, so I didn’t finish. I’ll be buying this to finish it.

Candy Cane Joe-Joes

Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s. I love these seasonal cookies from Trader Joe’s, they have a sharp and refreshing peppermint flavor. Note: kids don’t generally like them, I heard one precocious girl say they were “too spicy” for her liking. That’s just fine, more for me.

OXO mini clips

OXO mini clips. I use these to hold recipes on the wall near my counter, to hold takeout menus on the fridge, and to hold little bags of baking ingredients closed. They have a strong magnet on the back and have rubber bits inside the clamp which means it holds tight to everything. Whenever I need an item to make up a total to get free shipping on Amazon I can usually manage to find a pack of these on sale so at this point I have a lot and I use them all. They also come in steel.

The Walkind Dead logo

The Walking Dead. This is a really nicely done zombie show created from a series of graphic novels. It’s only two episodes in and I’m hooked. It seems to also be making fans of the original graphic novels happy as well.

My 10 year old LOVES candy cane joe-joes so I’d say only some kids don’t like them!

Thanks Vespabelle! I’m glad to know that.

Thanks for the tip on the dry shampoo! I usually use cornstarch-based ones and if I’m not careful I look like I’m wearing a powdered wig! Will definitely give it a try.

Have you tried the chocolate-covered candy cane joe-joe’s? I love them!

Monica – One of the things I like about this dry shampoo is that lots of reviews mentioned that it doesn’t leave a white residue. It does make my hair matte, but it’s usually not shiny any way so that isn’t much of a problem for me. I have not relied on it for a situation more serious than errand running though.

I HAVE tried the chocolate covered candy cane joe joes and they are amazing. I’m in danger of eating nothing else from now until Christmas.

LOVE the “Walking Dead”. We cozy-up in bed, eat popcorn and enjoy the DEAD!!!!!

The Walking Dead was the first comic I ever read consistently and I have to say, I am really pleased with the show. Even when the plot line diverges from the original it is still in line with the general theme and character development and in some ways even enhances it.

Oh, and zombies on TV, neat.

as if Trader Joes wasn’t the devil enough with those Joe joes, this year they have a box that as ALL THE FLAVORS in it. 4 different kinds of holiday joe joes. bastards!

Ivonne – No! I didn’t just hear that, la la la la la, I can’t hear you.

Stephanie, Frances, Kelly – We have to figure out to record The Walking Dead and watch it on Monday instead of staying up to watch it Sunday night as it’s been giving us zombie nightmares. Though, that isn’t an uninteresting way to start the work week.

is the dry shampoo something i can buy at the drugstore? i’ve been looking for one that i don’t have to buy online. i usually go for plain cornstarch but would REALLY like to try dry shampoo since i’ve heard a few good things about it lately in the blogosphere..

Alison – I’ve seen the BSH Volumizing Dry Shampoo at a local drugstore (Bartell’s) and at a local grocery/department store (Fred Meyer). It’s located on the shelves with the higher priced salon type hair products. The dry shampoo isn’t cheap but for me it’s worth the price. I use very little typically, usually just my bangs which are the first to get greasy. Best of luck finding it — it looks like one of those giant cans of hairspray, and BSH also sells a Volumizing Hairspray in a can that looks exactly the same, so do inspect the can before you grab it.

Sign up for Amazon Prime!! I love it. Totally worth the $.

  • 13 alison // Nov 10, 2010 at 9:06 pm

awesome! thanks for the info. i am local and go to fred meyer often so i will look for it there. i thought about looking for some ‘drugstore brand’ dry shampoo recently but didn’t want to spend the time with my toddler waiting around for me!
oh, how’s the smell for this stuff? is it overpowering?

  • 14 megan // Nov 10, 2010 at 9:13 pm

Alison – Cool, I will note that sometimes the stores have it, sometimes not. Wish I could tell you for certain where you could find it. I usually shop in the Columbia City Bartells and the Renton Fred Meyer.

The smell is pleasant and I don’t notice it after it’s dried. (Your nose may vary!)

I am ALWAYS trying to find something to meet the free shipping requirement f/ Amazon. I’d rather spend an extra $5-$7 on a product than shipping! These clips are a great choice. Thanks for plotting the idea for these since I was just looking all over my kitchen for a clip the other day…PERFECT! I never would have really thought about it :)

Walking Dead is kind of gross in maximum ways, but I agree about it being nicely done. It has the look of good movie making, and for me that contrasts sharply with all the blood and guts.

I love the Trader Joe Peppermint Joe-Joe’s too but my favorite are the ones dipped in chocolate. You’ve had those, right? Tell me you’ve had those. So good. And in a smaller box for sanity’s sake.
