Hi Megan: I am really enjoying your site! Today I am going to tackle the Mini Gingerbread house's, That I am giving as part of my gifts for Christmas for my family & friends. They loved them last year, so it is now part of my holiday baking.

Thanks Craighton for the details. Tara, Nana -- I did look at the technical specs for the Pinch before I purchased and noted that it's designed carefully to avoid the pepper shaker hanging into the salt. Nana, I think your declaration of poor functionality wasn't well researched.

Also, I'm not worried about germs here as we do wash our hands before dinner. (Always a rule in my house growing up that has survived through to this generation.)

Fear not, friends: the pepper shaker was designed so that it rests comfortably above the salt--no salt trails. As for the "yick" factor-- you just need to have cleaner friends. Kidding. Salt is actually a very inhospitable environment form germs and bacteria, so it would technically be very safe. Fir the squeamish, the salt could be changed after every meal.

Thanks for the post, Not Martha!

Aside from the 'yick' factor, some salt is going to cling to the bottom of the pepper shaker...and trail across the table or otherwise be in unwelcome places.
Cute design; poor functionality

I love the design of Pinch (I've seen it on a couple of design sites/blogs lately) but I have to say I'm a little grossed out by the idea of everyone's fingers in the salt at the table. I'm not usually a germaphobe either.

OK, the comic Lucy has up today is excellent. I don't think I had come across her before (I have a fair number of web comics in my Delicious). I will have to check the rest of her stuff out when I have time!
