funny about the speculoos spread, it is one of those items in the grocery store I always pass over as I pick up a new jar of Nutella. Wasn’t sure if it was a weird hybrid or some kind of gimmick. Now, speculoos cookies on the other hand are delish. We love the basic, grocery store variety by Lotus. They do this amazing thing when you dip them in milk, the texture seems to have little crunchy sugar crystals in it. So good. Anyway, about the spread, a friend who moved here (to Luxembourg) a year ago LOVES the stuff. She’s been singing the praises of it for months now. She microwaves it and pours it on vanilla ice cream (among other things.) god help us all. She mentioned yesterday that there is now a crunchy variety available. I still haven’t tried any of it. Now with the blog buzz about it, I’m grabbing a jar straightaway. I’ve got to see what this is all about.

About the speculoos, it is not really like gingerbread cookies. That’s how I explain it to people, but it’s not quite right. Speculoos isn’t spicy. It is not really gingery. Hey, would you like me to send you some? I’ll even stick in a jar of the spread. Let me know :)

Speculoos is popular at Christmas. St. Nicholas leaves it for children on December 6th (st. nicolas’ day)on a plate with chocolates, clementines and nuts. At least this is what my Belgian friend tells me.

Sorry for the long comment. I, too, feel like this darn spread is following me around begging for attention. I give in!!

I definitely cannot show my husband the spread. It might beat out his love of nutella!

Funny, that is the second time I have read about that spread today! Saw it on the menu at Sweet Iron, downtown Seattle, earlier today. You should check it out on their waffles! Enjoy :)
