I don't know, that 182-square foot apartment sounds like a nightmare. I totally support the notion of not having the giant fridge and buying fresh food multiple times each week -- but I also want counter space and room in which to actually cook it (my tiny kitchen in my 425-ish square foot apartment is already completely restrictive in a lot of ways). And while being forced to get out into the neighborhood is great if one enjoys spending the majority of one's time around people...I would go totally batshit crazy if I couldn't have a large part of my week consisting of me quietly alone in my cozy apartment. I think that kind of living only really works for people who are (1) fanatically on top of cleaning/tidyness -- which I am definitely not, and (2) people who don't really want to spend much time by themselves. (And also maybe people who don't own shelves and shelves and shelves of books...)

My mom swears by Spot Shot. But she also gave me the best advice for stains, especially if Spot Shot isn't working or you're out. A guy cleaning her carpets told her to use laundry stain remover, like Spray 'n Wash or Shout. Using that, I got a huge mustard stain (damn you yummy Montreal smoked beef sandwich) out of a beige carpet, also in a rental. It took a few tries, but eventually it was all gone.

I love spot shot. I have used it a couple times to remove hot chocolate from rental carpet. No traces of the spill were left to bemoan.

The noise from the pipes is called a "water hammer". the best fix is to have a plumber install a water hammer arrestor. It is in the best interest of the homeowner to correct this problem "a source" rather than pad the pipes within the wall, as a water hammer will eventually losen all the couplings in your pipes, causing leaks and potentially a flood. In our last apartment we had a water hammer in the pipe running along the bedroom wall - it took months for us to convince our landlord to fix it, but they finally did!

And I love the idea of having water balloons as a centerpiece at a picnic...though with my family I'd need to be wearing a raincoat!

Seanna Lea - Yes, exactly, it's so neatly finished.

Herschel - That is a very good idea.

I'm with you. That second chair is really cute! I wouldn't have thought it was paint and decoupage. I expected it to be some kind of contact paper.
