Not Martha

pie inspiration

Here are the pies entered into the recent Pie Off at Curio Confections here in Seattle. They were all delicious and judging was tough. I was honored to be asked to be a judge along Jessie from Cake Spy and Ashely from Not Without Salt. Thanks go to Maria for such a great event!

    but… but… which pie won??

  • 2 megan // Sep 23, 2009 at 1:26 pm

We had four winners – for the Classic category the lattice pie won, for the Adventure category the S’mores (congrats again Maggi!), I think the French Colonial won 2nd place for both categories (we couldn’t decide where it belonged), and the Spotted Marshmallow won best presentation.

I wonder if the rustic pie (top) could be pulled off with a gluten-free crust…

And that brown sugar pear one looks like a cheesecake!

Remind me, where are the recipes? I’d like to tinker

I just had a pie making party this weekend – I guess it’s that season! Did any of the pies use lard? That’s we we experimented with.

Mare – No recipes, these were entered into a pie contest.

That spotted marshmallow pie sure deserved it’s award….all those little almonds!! (I think?)

Laid out so perfectly. Someone has a lot of patience.

How can I get the recipe for avocado pie? Are the contenders thinking of publishing a little recipe book? These pies are so creative!

  • 17 Natalie // Sep 24, 2009 at 10:38 am

WOW you are talented…the Apple Blackberry Sage sounds amazing!

  • 18 Natalie // Sep 24, 2009 at 10:39 am

P.S. I’m with Chaya; are you dishing out your recipes, or are they top-secret? :)

  • 19 megan // Sep 24, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Natalie – These aren’t my pies, I was a judge at a Pie Off. These were all separate entries, there are no shared recipes, I’m just posting the photos I took at Curio here in the hopes they will inspire somebody.

I’m a few years behind in replying, but here’s the recipe I used to make the Avocado Pie I entered in Curio’s Pie Off above:

Make two simple graham cracker or cookie pie crusts, press into pie pan.

    In a blender, combine:
    4 avocados
    3/4 cup fresh lime juice
    1 can sweetened condensed milk

Blend until smooth. Pour into crust. Child and serve.

It’s one of the smoothest and most delightful tasting pies I’ve ever made. Enjoy!

    Additionally, RIP Curio!
