Just got back from a couple of hikes in the Olympics, which is not near the city but has rejuvenated my interest in local hikes. We did a trail at Tiger Mountain last year. Check out “Take a Hike Seattle” book, which lists a bunch of hikes within 2 hours of the city.
Rattlesnake Ridge is one that we often take out-of-town friends to. Last week, my husband and I went up Mt. Pilchuck – on a clear day, there are plenty opportunities for amazing views. Too bad we mostly just saw fog. The hike was still fun and beautiful, though. Three miles each way, some incline, but nothing crazy.
i really love my “Hikes within 60 miles of Seattle” book. it gives directions, descriptions of hike, elevation throughout hike and some pics. it’s separated by area too, so if you’re feeling like only doing stuff on 1-90, then there’s a whole section dedicated to 1-90 hikes. i usually refer to the book first, then internet it in case things have changed due to weather. i usually refer to the take-a-hike lady from seattle times:
Hi, I'm Megan. I live in Seattle with Scott. I make stuff and give you tutorials on how to make it too. I also keep a blog of what I'm up to and links to good stuff from all over.

Halloween Projects
Trick-or-Treat Cookies: You have to break them open to find out which you get.
Zombie Head Cheese: It's simply cheese spread on a plastic skull. It's ghastly.
Meat Hand: it's made of meatloaf, I promise
Skull Cake: I love this cake pan so darn much
Crawly Cakes: scary legs made from Pocky
Hallowig: an easy to knit wig that is warm, great for trick-or-treating (over at Knitty)
Pumpkin Pancakes: with black cinnamon syrup
Tentacle Pot Pie: will you eat it or will it eat you?
