watching:
How I Met Your Mother
People have recommended this show in the past and I didn’t listen, I’m so sorry we waited this long to get into it. It’s lighthearted and funny and sharp and I’ve become a devoted fan. Bonus if you can spot the Whedonverse actors who pop up for an episode or two.

reading:
Ladies of Grace Adeiu
I picked this book up from the library because the cover was interestingly vintage/old middle school cloth and screenprint looking. A library sticker was covering up the front of the book so that all I saw was “Susanna _____, author of the bestselling Jonathan _____”. That tured out to actually be “Susanna Clarke, author of the bestselling Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell“. The Ladies of Grace Adieu is a collection of retold fairy tales and I find them to be completely enchanting. There are illustrations by Charles Vess which could be taken from the pages of your favorite old storybook. This has been an unexpectedly, magically, lovely impulse.

loving:
wrap sweaters
It started with a marked down DKNY sweater from TJ Maxx which I wore so often I went and bought a similar one from Target to wear around the house so I could keep the first one nice. Now I want more because they are very cozy.

(For the iPhone.) This is among the Chip’s Challenge style of games. It’s been surprisingly engaging and fun.

speaking of reading, are you the kind person who recommended “The Monsters of Templeton” by Lauren Groff? If you were, thank you so much! If it wasn’t you, I strongly suggest it for an entertaining read. I’m currently enjoying some Phil Rickman, in particular the Merrily Watkins mysteries…good stuff.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and finds with us!

I am so with you on the wrap sweaters. It’s like wearing a blanket, but not.

Julie – It wasn’t me, but thank you for the recommendations.

Whitney – I read your post about them and have been meaning to ask for other wrap sweater sources – ?

I also have recently discovered How I Met Your Mother after watching Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog on Hulu and realizing that I wanted to watch anything and everything that Neil Patrick Harris was in.

I’ve seen Andrew from the Whedonverse, but I haven’t seen anyone else. Who am I missing?

    Steph:

The other news anchor from season one is Alexis Denisof who played Wesley on Buffy and Angel (and is married to Alyson Hannigan IRL).

The barista with crazy eyes who went on a date with Marshall is Morena Baccarin who played Inara on Firefly.

I think there was one more, but I cannot recall who. We’re only in the middle of season 2 at this point.

I remember, Amy Acker, Fred from Angel, was in an episode at the end of season 1 called “Come On”.

The Ladies of Grace Adieu is so good!!! I got the audio book for a road trip, but now I need to get the paper version for the pictures!

OMG, Dave’s Killer Bread is made less than a block from where I’m sitting right now. Isn’t it amazing?

Re the wrap sweater. There’s a pattern somewhere on the web that I downloaded a long time ago!

    Found it!
It’s at http://www.threadsmagazine.com as a pdf called “Cardi-wrap in an hour”

    Thanks Tina.

I LOVE Dave’s Killer Bread. I actually met him once at the PCC in Kirkland last year and he was doing the product demo! He was really nice but looked like he could kick some booty if he needed to. ;) My favorite is the Good Seed bread, toasted and smeared with TJ’s cashew butter. YUM!

I’m also a big fan of HIMYM. It’s so well written!

Love Dave’s Killer Bread; I’ll usually get the cracked wheat when I’m out of homemade.

I’m really hoping Susanna Clarke writes more! I didn’t put down Jonathan Strange for two weeks straight.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Dave’s Killer Bread. I discovered it at Costco and have never looked back :)

How I Met Your Mother is wonderfully hilarious. Neil Patrick Harris makes the show.

hmm..I’ve never seen Dave’s Killer bread before. I wonder if they’ll have it at costco canada. I need to go hunting for some bread that’s not on drugs!

my husband and I have been watching HIMYM since the first episode…it’s the only thing we actually watch on TV except for “cash cab”!
I’m glad to hear someone else chooses library books based on how appealing the cover is. I’ve done that more than a few times and it almost always is a good book!

I live in the Albuquerue, New Mexico, metro. Neil Patrick Harris grew up here and his parents own a local restaurant. I’ll have to let them know their son’s praises are here @ notmartha! By the way, their restaurant offers “sweet potato fries”. Uncommon, but appreciated, in the southwest!

    Blessings~

This is my favorite bread brand. After I got over the shock of paying a lot for bread, I realized that this bread has the magic combination of being full of good stuff yet not dry and tasteless.

Oh, and the wrap sweater is great for pregnancy – it keeps fitting even as I expand.

  • 19 Kate // Mar 2, 2009 at 8:15 am

    HIMYM is awesome!

  • 20 megan // Mar 2, 2009 at 3:02 pm

aaaaaaaaah! can you post a how-to for wrap sweaters? i find that i’m always wearing mine the same way and i know there has to be more to it!

  • 21 D // Mar 3, 2009 at 7:09 am

Wrap sweaters are awesome! Have you tried the I.N.C. at Macys; they are on sale now (about $20 from $70). I have three!!!! They are 95% silk and 5% rayon and they keep their shape well. I wear them with everything!!
