pies baked in tiny jars
I recently made pies baked in tiny jars. They were perfection.
The dessert in a jar thing came at me in a few different ways. First was the mention of cakes baked in a jar over at Angry Chicken, and then with pretty frosting at Super Eggplant. What a brilliant present, an already baked cake all sealed up and ready to eat.
Later I came across these pies baked in jars at LloydAndLauren. Little pies, which you construct in jars and freeze to bake later so you have individual freshly baked pies basically on demand. This is genius. I was overcome with the need to make my own immediately.
Above, just out of the freezer. Below, just out of the oven.
Go see my page on the making of the pies baked in tiny jars.
Since I made them Lauren has displayed more genius, as well as an affinity for the tiny jars, in the form of individual frozen desserts in jars ready to pop out and eat. Oh, the goodness is almost too much for me.

Pie in a jar is even better than cake in a jar!

I send frozen meals to elderly relatives. These tiny pies are the perfect fun treat to add to the meal deliveries!!

What a super idea to make up the pies and keep them in the freezer. I was trying to think up some interesting things to do while peaches are in season and think this qualifies.

I think this is my very favorite food thing you've ever posted here! I love that little heart cut out and the sweetness of a little jar pie!! I'm not a baker but this makes me want to bake!

OMG, so hungry now. (Tell me I'm not the only one who thought of "It's my --- in a box, though.")

that looks so yummy! i love that you can keep it in the freezer for later.
i ate at ubuntu (in napa) recently and had the most fantastic dessert - it was a deconstructed blackberry cheesecake in a jar. it wasn't baked like a traditional cheesecake, but rather had similar components, layered - graham crumble, a really light creamy cheese-y layer and fresh blackberries. it was one of the best desserts i've ever had.

Hey, new blogger (but long time lurker); I made Peach-Apricot pies in jelly jars, and it was magnificent. THANK YOU for the idea.

Those are adorable! The jar was ok going from the freezer into the oven? No explosions of any kind?
Comment by Z — June 8, 2008 @ 2:44 am
Z - Two of my twelve jars show stress fractures after two rounds of baking. No explosions though. Usually there is some time between when I took the jars out of the oven and got all the things I needed (baking sheet, silpat, oven mitt, got the frozen jars open, made sure oven was preheated, take a photograph). So, do allow some time for the jar warm up a bit.

okay, so i need pie-making ingredients, a gross of tiny jars, a stand-along freezer, and an addition onto my house to contain the stand along freezer.
