When I lived in Boston, my skin was terrible with really painful breakouts. I tried all the mild cleansers, changed foundations, quit using moisturizer, etc. I washed my pillows, changed detergents. Nothing worked. When I moved to Chicago, my skin instantly cleared up without changing my routine. And I've gone back to using moisturizer and various additional cosmetics. I suspect it was environmental.

Julie - Mine has "Designed by Daher Long Island NY 11101 Container made in England" stamped into the bottom. The other one in my picture, which is obviously a reproduction, does not have anything on the bottom.

I just checked and I have a tin that looks similar to the ones on the link. I bought it a year ago at a garage sale for ten cents. I wonder if there's anyway I can tell if it's authentic?

Those light-up pens are common product-fair promotional trinkets. I'm pretty sure I have some of that exact model with a different company's name on it.

You could have your/his own made!

First, TOTALLY AWESOME about the new Neal Stephenson book!
On the Pimsleur thing...I tried the tapes but it didn't take :) I think I am too much of a visual person to be successful with a mostly audio format. I have been trying to buy an interactive type for the computer since the beginning of the year but I haven't been able to decide on which one and then find it at the store all at the same approximate time, so then I forget about it for another month.

Thanks for the info on the Daher tins - I inherited one of those from my grandma (it looks just like the one on the far right of the D*S pic) - had no idea it might be special.

If you have a Costco membership, keep an eye on their nonfiction book table -- they often get in shipments of language CDs. I was able to pick up a basic Pimsleur set for about $10 last year.

Sara - Thanks, the library system shows a queue of how many people are before you, and I joined with something like 500 people in front of me. The Seattle library system is bad about this, and occasionally your request with expire before you've even gotten close to the materials. Last year the county library system stopped allowing Seattle residents from putting holds on their materials, so I'm out of luck with other nearby libraries. Still, I don't want to learn a new language so badly that I am willing to buy the Pimsler.

About the Pimsler French CDs -- you might want to check with the library and make sure they haven't gone missing. Those types of CDs have a habit of getting checked out and never returned, but the library would probably re-order if they realize that they're missing.
