completely agree on the Bed Bath and Beyond post. It seems everything they sell is "disposable" in that...before long you toss it.

I love the green strainer and am getting one!

Now - can I say that the sensor soap pump works wonderfully. I got the Williams Sonoma version as a gift and it is a lifesavor. I don't worry about cross contamination or just general ick issues. It is well worth it!

Sarah - thanks for the tip on the scissors. I usually use my kitchen shears for mail so I might want thinner blades as well.

I bought the Escali scale too after seeing it here. I love it! I never really put big bowls on it so I guess that's not so much of an issue for me.

About the scissors, I've had Wusthoff shears for a while now and just have not been impressed with them. I just bought the Messermeister brand take-apart shears on Amazon (they just came back in stock), and these are awesome. Totally worth the price. I love that the blades are thin, it makes them easier to maneuver. I always felt the Wusthoff ones were too bulky.

Oh! That soap dispenser is awesome! I'm off to buy two! I've always been a little scared of my soap dispenser in the kitchen, because after handling raw meat, I have to wash my hands, and then wash the soap dispenser =X In the bathroom, my kids are always taking waaaay too much soap. This will be awesome, thanks for the tip!

You can order individual metal lids from Calphalon if and when you manage to break the glass one.

I have a $20 postal scale from Costco. It does just as well as the other much more expensive kitchen scales. I don't think it does 1/8 oz, but it's a nice small, cheap alternative. It also has a hold button "for large packages", so you can see what the weight was after you take the weight off.

Thanks everyone!

Playmaker - This is good to know. I might buy a the larger sized Calphalon saucepan if something good doesn't come around on Amazon.

I have the Target Calphalon cookware, and I tell you, those lids are indestructible. They're made of some sort of tempered glass or something, and have clattered all over my kitchen floor over the years. Not one of them has ever broken or even cracked. They're really durable.

I own the Wustof Come-Apart Shears and they are awesome, no gunk gets stuck in-between the blades. We have a whole Wusthof knife block set and have been really impressed with the quality.
I, too love/loathe the Simplehuman Sensor Soap Pump and must have it.
