liking:
L’Oreal High Intensity Pigments Cream Eyeliner
I have never had luck with pencil eyeliners, and was considering getting some MAC Fluidline when I stumbled across this in a store. It comes with a small brush but I prefer my fine Sonia Kashuk eyeliner brush. It’s a very dark and true black and I find it easier to apply than liquid or pencil eyeliner.
using:
Cover Girl Lash Blast
This comes with one of those new types of brushes, and a few coats makes decent lashes for daytime. Cover Girl mascaras are the only drug store brand I’ve found so far that don’t run on me, and it comes off cleanly when I wash with my usual Cetaphil. I like it but I’m not overwhelmed with joy that it exists.
dabbing:
Rosebud Salve
I’ve been rubbing this on a rough spot on my ankle before I got to bed and I like the gentle scent.
loving:
Hollywood Fashion Tape
I used this on my low cut dress and was expecting to have to figure out a way to get the adhesive off the fabric at the end of the night. But, happily, it held securely and came of cleanly. I got the Red Carpet Assortment that comes with five different shapes. You can find it in Joann stores as well as at Amazon.
finding useful:
Post-it lined 4×6 pads
I, um, borrowed one of these from Scott and find myself using it for all those lists I like to keep all over the house.

I love Rosebud salve! I haven’t seen it in a long time, and for some reason never thought to look for it online. I used to buy it at the farm supply store, and it saved me from chapped lips many, many times.

I’m also a cream eyeliner fan, though I prefer using it with a small stiff straight flat brush. dab with the edge of the brush a few times to make a line instead of drawing it across. I think it’s easier to do and I can deposit it between the lashes instead of next to them.

I use clinique cream mouse eyeliner, but maybe I’ll try the l’oreal as a less expensive alternative when I need a new jar.

I just bought the L’Oreal HIP Eyeliner this past weekend at Target and LOVE it. I’m not one for sharpening pencils, the wind-up pencils are too waxy and they keep discontinuing any liquid eyeliner I ever find that works like the first kind I ever used. LOVE the creamy texture, but I’m going to have to get a new brush, the one included is far too rough!

I adore the hip eyeliner. I am a complete klutz when it comes to eyeliner but not only does it work good, it goes on easily and stays put! I actually was able to do a cat eye with it!

If you like that mascara you might like supshock by Avon. Its brand new and its like the covergirl one with a very similar brush but I think it gives me even bigger lashes which is a feat as mine are so teeny tiny.

I just bought the same Post-Its literally 10 minutes before I read this post, and I’m already obsessed. They are a very nice size to write on.

Ok, so I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now. I was sitting here making my list of things to get at Target and saw this post and jotted down the Loreal HIP stuff as I too have a hard time with liners…
Then I scrolled down and saw your love of the Post-It pads. My list? Is on those very pads! I love them. It’s truely an addiction!

Love, love, love Rosebud salve. It’s made in the same town in Maryland that my grandparents are from…so it’s always just been around the house for as long as I can remember. Great stuff.

Yay! I was just thinking that I needed a new eyeliner. Liquid ones make me nervous and I’ve been wanting to try a powder/cream one. Thanks for the rec!
Also, that covergirl mascara is impossible for me to remove. It’s decent but not great, and my (admittedly very gentle) cleanser can’t get it off!

Dava – You might find it interesting that the Rosebud salve has gone upscale in the last decade, it’s been available at Anthropologie and Sephora.

I love rosebud salve too! I have both plain and strawberry and I definately prefer the plain scent.
I’m a post it notes junky and LOVE the super stickys. I have them everywhere around our house. I just wish their designs were more fun (and yes, I’ve seen their “fun” designs- but I want MORE fun!)

Dawn – I agree. Scott got a fairly unobnoxious set of colors and we both chose colors (lime, orange) and ignored the other two colors for now.

I like the Maybelline lash exact mascara. Great for a nice daytime lash. For night I think that MAC lashpro is great! I am definitely going to get those post it’s though! And I want to try the liner as well!

If you like the brush on the CoverGirl mascara, try Max Factor. The CG made my lashes all stiff and crunchy but the MF just makes them all full and pretty. And the brush prevents clumping. So awesome!

My sister completely revolutionized my eye makeup regime a couple years ago when she bought me Blinc Kiss Me Mascara and a Pop Beauty Eyeshadow set.
I use a moistened urban decay brow brush to apply the darker shades of eye shadow from the palette as eyeliner, and it gives me far more precision (and conversely, more leeway) than any other eyeliner I’ve used, liquid or pencil. It’s also not overly pigmented like other powder liners I’ve tried (Everyday Minerals comes to mind), so if it smudges and runs a little through the day, I don’t immediately have raccoon eyes.
The mascara is where it’s REALLY at though. I have very oily skin, so finding a brand of mascara that won’t give me the aforementioned raccoon eyes has been next to impossible. Before this, the only luck I had was Neutrogena’s Weightless Volume Wax free mascara, which didn’t have much staying power at all, but also didn’t give me giant dark rings under my eyes.
The Blinc mascara is simply wonderful–as the description says, it literally forms tubes around each of your lashes (kind of stretchy and silicon-like when you remove them), and the worst I’ve ever experienced is a little bit if flakiness at the end of a very long day, which is very easy to brush away. It has its limitations of course. It’s not nap-friendly mascara, you can’t “touch up” like you can do with others, and also, curling your lashes after you’ve applied is a big no-no (since all of these tend to make the tubes “break” giving you an odd clumpy look). It’s on the spendy side, but on average I’ve only used 3 tubes a year, so it’s a worthwhile trade-off in my book (also, it tends to improve with age—it can be a little runny when brand new). One of the other slightly odd benefits to it is that if you curl your eyelashes beforehand, it seals that curl in place for the whole day, kind of like hairspray. My eyelashes naturally slope downward, so I have to curl them to get them to show up at all, and before using this mascara, I had to carry an eyelash curler with me to bend them back up several times a day. Not anymore! Oh yeah, it also removes very easily with water alone, or soap and water.
Sorry to go off on such a lengthy rant about this. It’s just that this mascara owns my heart now. Hopefully you haven’t tried it before and hated it.

I like the brush on my Cover Girl Volume Exact mascara a lot, I think it is the same as the Lash Blast. But I prefer Mac Zoom Lash mascara. The brush that comes with Zoom Lash is awful. Love love love rosebud salve. I keep it in the car and rub it into my cuticles at stoplights.

You can also get the Hollywood Fashion Tape at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things, and I think Target too. It’s everywhere now!

I currently have a crush on the Mint Rosebud Salve. I keep a tin in the pocket of every coat, in my desk drawer, my purse and by my bedside table. I’ve found that the secret to not losing lip balm is to buy a truly ridiculous amount and stick it every where.

That eyeliner looks AWESOME.
They discontinued the loose kohl eyeliner I used and loved for years (and I’m almost OUT *sob*), and while liquid is OK, I’ve been on the lookout for something better.
Does it wear off or rub like some liquids do? how does it do if it gets warm (like, if it’s warm where you are or in the summer?). Does anyone know? I’m totally going to try it anyway, but I’m curious.
I’m still totally mourning the loss of the Physician’s Formula Loose Kohl. Really, I am.

Oh, I’ll have to try the HIP eyeliner. I’ve got a cream one from Victoria’s Secret that has 2 colors in it, but I only use the darker one. The other is a browney pink that makes my eyes a little to rabbity red looking. lol Pink eyeliner is NOT for me.
21 megan // Jan 29, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Bibliogrrl – The HIP eyeliner dries pretty quickly and is fairly rubproof. I wore it to a fancy party and it didn’t budge, and it doesn’t rub off during less-dramatically applied daily wear.

I finally found a wicked mascara:
Kiss Me. It ‘tubes’ each lash and never runs. About $30 a tube but so worth not having raccoon eyes!

Love those super sticky post-it notes! Excellent for driving directions; they stay on the steering wheel center until deliberately removed.

i bought that mascara recently too! I like how big the brush is…although it seems a bit excessive. I noticed that it clumps easily! I prefer their LashExact mascara. I’ll prolly go back to that next! It’s always worked well for me.
