the Bloggies

Oh you guys, thanks! Not Martha has been nominated for Best Art or Craft Weblog and I couldn't be more flattered! Especially since I feel like all I've been doing lately is putting up links. I'm with fantastic company - Posie Gets Cozy, Angry Chicken, Post Secret and Apartment Therapy. Seriously, I'm blushing right now.

I'm surprised to find I'm familiar with a lot more sites in all the categories this year than I have been in previous years. Here are my picks which I post in the hopes that you will vote for them as well.

Best Web Application: Wordpress, because I use it and it's nifty.

Best European Weblog: Chocolate & Zucchini, because I've been reading it since it started and Clotilde is a really great gal, and I love her book.

Best Photography of a Weblog: equal split for Dooce, Smitten Kitchen and 101 Cookbooks. I don't find it surprising that two food blogs made the list, food photography = porn for this Catholic raised girl from the midwest.

Best Food Weblog: Gluten-Free Girl and Orangette! Because they are both fantastic, both live here in Seattle, and (having met both of them) are as nice as could be.

Best Fashion Weblog: I've been peeking at Jezebel and Go Fug Yourself a lot lately.

Best Entertainment Weblog: Television Without Pity, because they've always been there for me in times when a freaking helicopter falls on my favorite cranky doctor on ER and I cannot believe it either. And because their writers work so hard to give entertaining, detailed recaps.

Best Writing of a Weblog: Dooce and Waiter Rant have both been keeping me entertained for years while giving me insight into how people work.

Best-Designed Weblog: Dooce or Design*Sponge, both had great redesigns last year.

Lifetime Achievement: Mighty Girl or Heather B. Armstrong (Dooce)! Both are amazing women who make me laugh.

  3. I'm bummed to see GoFugYourself on the bloggies so much. They're so close to the other awful hollywood gossip blogs in that they simply obsess on how people look. 20 entries a day on who looks too fat or wears an ugly dress once or a photographer takes an unflattering photo. Are we supposed to feel better about ourselves by making fun of famous people not looking perfect 100% of the time?

It's depressing that a whole swath of the blogosphere is basically just replicating the supermarket checkout magazine aisle.

  5. Congratulations- that is well deserved. Crossing fingers - or pressing thumbs as we say in Germany!

  6. Matt - It's cool. I like the premise of Go Fug Yourself -- that these celebrities have money and stylists and consultants so how could they end up wearing some of the things they wear? I'm sort of torn on the bitchiness though, some days I find it entertaining other days irritating.

  7. Congratulationa! I've voted for you...

Am I the only person who can never quite get into Dooce?

  8. Paola - It might be one of those things where you become super attached if you've read from the beginning, back before she was so famously fired.

  11. congratulations!

and just to chime in on the go fug yourself conversation - most of the pictures they use are of people at promotional events, where they expect to be photographed. not at the grocery store with their kids, etc. and i love it. so there.

  13. Megan,
I LOVE your links. It's through your links that I've found so many of the sites that I read every single day. My coworkers are always asking me where I find such interesting sites. I tell them "all good sites come through Not Martha".
