Caramelized brown butter rice krispie treats, recipe from the NYTimes, and a warning about adding chocolate at Smitten Kitchen. I made these and oh my gosh they are yummy, but I suggest you cut them before they've fully cooled. There is more butter and less marshmallow and every time we cut into them they do this spectacular crumbling/shooting across the counter to land on the floor combo.

Thanks for the link to the Everyday Food recipe index. So many weekend mornings end up with me surrounded by stacks of issues, trying to remember which one has the recipe I want to make that day. That'll come in handy!
(And people really pay up to $50 for the first issue? I should go look and see if I have it...)

I love the clear ice cubes! Too bad they are so much work! I may make them a few times...perhaps for my cocktail party coming up!

When I was in grade school we went to a nature center -- they showed us a bush that had these little pink or red "berries" all over it. We were instructed to pick one (they were tiny -- about the size a popcorn kernel, maybe smaller) and squeeze it between our fingers and then lick the "juice" left behind. It tasted just like pink lemonade. We were told that people used to boil these to make a drink.

$50 for the premier issue! i've cooked every recipe from it, it's one of the best. my issue is all beat to heck and i don't think i will be parting with it... really.

Brook - My mother works at a nature center so this must be what she's talking about. I can never get her to admit that this is no longer the way it's made, however.

I am very intrigued by all of those recipes. The Day of the Dead cookies look very interesting.
