  1. Ha! I saw that the other day, and thought of you! :) I think that's a sign you definitely need it! When random blog readers are thinking of you when they see it! :)

  2. I absolutely LOVE that cake pan. My sister's hobby is cake decorating (she's really good!). I've been looking for a cake pan for her birthday present, and this would be the perfect one...unfortunately, Sur La Table is not set-up to accept credit card payments from Canadian banks. Too bad...

I'll have to see if I can find someone in Canada who carries it. It's so perfect!!

  4. I can't even imagine trying to cut a slice out of that thing without destroying something... but then, I am a klutz.

  5. Oh my GOSH. I LOVE it. I can't imagine how to cut it, but love it anyway!

  6. I must have this immediately! How did you ever find such a thing? I'm thinking of leaving work just to find myself one. Think of all the possibilities....
I'm new to your site (and the blog community at large) but you can certainly count on my return!

  7. I'd love to see that in action. (sadly, I'm to cheap to buy this pan. But I might make a faux cupcake using a small bowl to bake the top part in.)

  8. My birthday is coming up. That would be so perfect..No guilt about eating just one cupcake.

    Comment by Suzi — July 26, 2007 @ 9:43 am

  9. That is fantastic!

  10. I LOVE IT. And I pretty much never say that about a baking implement.

I think when I would frost it, I would probably obscure all the details... But making one huge cupcake is way more appealing to me than frosting a bunch of little ones!!

    Comment by Gina — July 26, 2007 @ 10:55 am

  11. WOW! That is one for the record books. I am going to have to buy one for myself and subsequently, over flow the cabinet with all the cake pans and muffin tins and......there is never enough room. But always room for oversize cuppacakes!

    Comment by Marjorie — July 26, 2007 @ 3:54 pm

  12. oh my golly! please please please take photos of the process when you make this!

    Comment by Aimee — July 26, 2007 @ 8:45 pm

  14. This definitely by passes the wishlist and goes straight to the absolutely must have right now!
The decorating possibilities are endless - oh I can see (and taste) them now!

    Thanks!

  15. this is just wrong. the whole point of a cupcake is that it is 1) cute, 2) individual - ALL your very own to eat, and 3) single-serving. this is just a fundamental misunderstanding of a cupcake's sacred purpose.

    Comment by cmightym — July 27, 2007 @ 7:47 am

  16. If I were going to buy another Kitchen Item, this would sorely tempt me! I think I'd put something solid (cut a circle from plastic...heck, use cardboard) between the layers. And then cut it as if it were two separate cakes. One might even (carefully) cut the top into two horizontal layers, in order to add just a little filling.

  20. I love this. I don't even really like frosting, but oooh, I must get this pan... for it, i will happily deal with frosting!

    Comment by demondoll — July 29, 2007 @ 1:49 pm

  21. So much for the single serve. But I still love it. I "need" one of those.

    Comment by Rachael — July 29, 2007 @ 9:32 pm

  22. I just bought one of these at Sur La Table. I am going to use it as the top tier on an anniversary cake for my parents.
BTW William Sonoma has a beehive pan that is similar.

  23. I will need to get this asap!!!!

  24. So buying that!

    Comment by Samantha — August 1, 2007 @ 10:12 pm

  25. The image of that pan has been residing in the back of my brain for now before I figured out what was bothering me: both shapes bake together in a connected pan.

How do you get those suckers out?

Intricate shapes like that tend to get stuck, at least for me, and require some coaxing and wiggling (not to mention cajoling and pleading) while upside-down. How can you do that with this pan? I'd need to take a hacksaw to the pan before I'd dare bake in it.

    Comment by Elsa — August 4, 2007 @ 11:59 am

  26. I'll probably have to buy this. What's better in life than a giant cupcake? A giant cupcake for everyone's birthday for the rest of my life!

    Comment by Lindsay — August 4, 2007 @ 6:27 pm

  27. Elsa, I gave up Bundts because they always stuck, at least in my Grandmother's old pan. I greased and floured this pan well, waited 15 min after baking to turn it over and the two halves slid right out.
I frosted just the top which did obscure the design. It reminded us of a bird house once we started slicing it. I posted a pic of my cake on my link.
Oh..when I put it in a Tupperware cake carrier it was a little tall and squished the top a little. It is quite a tall cake.

  28. I desperately want that cakepan.

  29. my favorite part is how you can put on full-size-candy "sprinkles." :)

    Comment by KT — August 8, 2007 @ 11:58 am

  30. elsa - have you tried the baking sprays, such as Baker's Joy and Pam for Baking?

I have the Nordic pan that is 6 Christmas trees in a circle...I took a pastry brush and melted butter and made sure I got in to every nook and cranny, then floured...popped out perfectly

  32. We are having a "dot" themed party for my daughter's second birthday. I was just going to make a round cake with big dots all over it, but this raises the bar! And my husband will love the test cake that I make before the big day! What a great idea!

  40. I just bought this pan to make a cake for my Grandmothers 90th birthday party. Because she is a diabetic I have to use premade cake mix and frositng with Splenda (betty crocker or pillsbury brand). Does anyone know how long to bake it for?

    Comment by Grandaughter — March 27, 2008 @ 12:18 pm

  41. I have not made this yet but I bought the pan today (at Michaels with a 50% off coupon!) I've been searcing the online community for tips and ideas for the best success. The general consensus is to bake at 325 for 55-65 minutes.

    Comment by Lisa — April 3, 2008 @ 10:05 am

  42. Why are ya'll still using shortening and flour, especially with shaped pans and bundt pans. Get a can of Baker's Joy and you will not have a cake stuck again! I haven't used flour in years. I love this product that I keep a spare can in the pantry. You can get it on the baking isles of most stores next to the Pam. By the way, this pan I thought about for 2 days before I got it. I figure I use it for every occasion and get my $30 out of it. I love it. I do bake the bottom portion about 10 minutes longer, then spray the top half, and pour the batter in it. Both halfs come out perfect!

  43. The store I work at just started carrying this item. I snagged it immediately, and used a 50% off coupon and employee discount, for a grand total of $12. My friend's birthday is tonight, I'm going to try it out right now! Thanks for the tips.

  48. Hi, I tried to make this giant cupcake but my icing wouldn't stick to the cake. I used the wilton buttercream icing mix, should I use something different? If so, what is the recipe? Thanks

    Comment by Christine — June 13, 2008 @ 7:00 am

  49. This mold was perfect. I have a child that will not eat chocolate. I made the recipe w/o the chocolate, poured half into the top; added half that recommended chocolate and poured that into the bottom. It was amazing and the cake looked great. And it feed A LOT of people.
