craft stuff

Pom pom decorations made using the Martha Stewart instructions, I love the color. They are the same as the ones being sold in the Martha Stewart Crafts selection at Michael's. I've been wanting to go see the MS Crafts, but the nearest Michael's is too far to make it a quick trip. At Shim and Sons.

Weekly online crochet course, at Craft.

If you want to learn to make your own yarn, Yarn School at The Harveyville Project sounds perfect.

Using bacon grease to make soap at Chow.

Sew Useful - Etsy and Instructables are pairing up to create a contest around things that make life easier. Via Bleu Arts.

  1. Just an FYI: My mom and I trekked to Michael's to check out the MS Crafts, hoping to use one of our ubiquitous 40% off coupons on a kit that struck our fancy. When we got to the register, however, we learned that the coupons cannot be used on MS Crafts. Bummer, because they're pricy.

  2. I made a bunch of these giant pompoms in different shades of pink for my little girl's birthday - they looked SO cute!
I've also done these in a smaller size for a friend's bridal shower. She loves turquoise so we made little turquoise pompoms to adorn the wine glasses and bigger ones on floral wire to fill vases down the center of the table. It looked FAB and was SUPER CHEAP!

  3. I completely recommend getting the instructions off MS' website for the paper pom-poms (she also has a handful of other tissue-paper flowers as well) as $19 for 6 tissue paper flowers equals gigantic rip-off. I make the pom-poms and other paper flowers where I work and the pom-poms always receive the most attention, moreso than the more time-consuming paper flowers!

    More potential inspiration?

  4. My Mother use to make these for my parties in the 1960's! It's a cute &
easy idea to make your home festive.
