Vij's is great for dinner. And for lunch, I think Finch's (at Homer and Pender) is one's best bet. Amazing soups, wonderful sandwiches, Salt Spring Island coffee, and a great atmosphere. Tends to get extremely busy between 12 and 1 though...

One other thing to add to your Vancouver list, which I was just reminded of by the word "Chocolat"... FOR GOD'S SAKE GO TO VIJ'S FOR DINNER. If you like Indian food at ALL. And if you can't go to dinner, go to Vij's Rangoli (take out and lunch food), which is next door. Either way, get the Thomas Haas chocolates, which they serve in the dining room and sell in Rangoli. They are to die for.
