I was poking around trying to learn a little more about Hostess Sno Balls and I came across this article about the history of the snack cake --
Some Like It Pink, from the Los Angeles Times Magazine where it revealed that the Sno Balls made in LA have pink marshmallow as well as pink coconut making it
just that much more pink. (Why didn't anyone tell me about this wonderfulness?)
But even better, the article is followed by this recipe for
Pink Snowballs by David Leite. Drool.

Scott had an early gig at the Conor Byrne a few weeks ago and a few other people were playing that evening as well. One girl had created a glowing display of her cds for sale that was very alluring in the dark pub and I went over to find out how she did it. Turns out her cd sleeves hadn't arrived on time before she hit the road and that morning she had improvised - she noticed the pastry bags at a bakery were about cd sized and they agreed to give her a bunch to use, and she got them to stand up using silver binder clips, the glow came from standing them up in front of a candle. Quick, someone give
Kate Earl a grace under pressure DIY award.

Scott has some
upcoming shows that promise to be great, and he's headed out on tour (Bellingham, Portland, San Francisco and hopefully Sacramento) in November. He has even secured Mike to play mandoline and fiddle in Bellingham, and Mike and Shawn to play with him for when he opens for
Granian at the Conor Byrne on the 28th. It's gonna be a good show.

When I was going through the ritual of Getting Fitted By A Sales Lady For My First Bra she gave me a bit of advice: If you find a bra that fits buy two of them, if you find a bra that fits and you really like, buy six. Because inevitably the company is going to discontinue that particular bra almost right away. I have only recently been learning how brilliant this lady was. I don't enjoy shopping all that much so I have been stockpiling clothing lately and keeping it for when the items in current rotation are worn out completely, I only hope I have the courage to take off the tags and actually use the stuff when the time comes. I have tucked up in my closet six tank tops (three black, three white) that aren't too short and go underneath everything well, and too many pairs of those non-thong flip flop shoes than I care to disclose. So when my favorite jeans (of which I had three pairs) all developed socially unacceptable
holes in the same week and I found out that the wash that I like had been discontinued, I panicked. Why didn't I buy ten pairs when I had the chance?! Luckily I found where the last of the discontinued wash were being sold online (on sale!) and am currently in the process of talking myself into buying just two more pairs three or four times.
So, if I always seem to be wearing the same clothes you know why.

I had a very good weekend, on Friday I finished Uru while eating
Glow Balls, on Saturday I moved most of my files over to the newer, faster computer and installed
Thunderbird (so nice)(and thank you to my in-house technical advisor), then it was
Shaun of the Dead, a cupcake from the newly opened
Cupcake Royale, and dinner. Sunday a big breakfast in our old neighborhood, a pumpkin patch and a surprisingly complicated
corn maze (lesson learned from unhappy passing couple: don't wear cashmere to a corn maze), and the new(ish)
More Archie McPhee store, and the regular store as well. I was charmed by the
sushi bandages and the
pirate umbrella.

Knitty news!
Knit Wit is out! and Amy Singer, editor extraordinaire, is going on a
book tour. How exciting! Also, the Knitty blog has a new
home and the Fall
Knitty surprise is coming October 18th.
I have a few easy and warm patterns in Knit Wit, so I may be biased when I say the book is fabulous.
