Pamie talks about WFUV (pronounded wuh-fuhv), the radio station was a beacon of normalcy in the asylum which were my college years. Someday I'm going to give that station a lot of money, just as soon as I have some to spare, or, you know, any at all.

I want a board to display inspiration pictures (read: pictures of stuff from catalogs I want but cannot afford). The designer versions (like this one at Fred Flare) rock, but will have to wait. There large combination magnetic and dry erase board you can find at Ikea and office supply shops are simple enough, but I don't need dry erase. The Martha Stewart web site has a project for a simple framed sheet of galvanized steel. A 2' x 3' sheet of galvanized steel at Home Depot is about $6. I think it will be easy enough to make an unframed version, I think I can use hardboard as a backing, which is pretty inexpensive.

Do huge pumpkins have huge seeds? Or just more seeds? If they are huge seeds, are they still good to eat?

Jenny writes about a trip to go get Snacky Jack pumpkins, which have thin or no-hull seeds which are meant for eating. I want! I couldn't find any information about them via Google, anyone happen to know if they are sold in any food stores in the Seattle area?

Cool little DIY fairs seem all the rage these days, there is the DIY Trunk Show happening in Chicago on November 15th, and word comes from Jenny at Sew Darn Cute about the bi-coastal Bazaar Bizarre in Boston on December 13th and LA on December 14th. (More news about the LA event can be found here.) Are there any events happening in your area? Let us know about it!

Girl Hacker points to the Java-Log, a firelog made of used coffee grounds - "the Java Log burns brighter because used coffee grounds have about 25-per-cent more energy than wood and triple the flame per unit of energy." It was invented in Canada, and is going on sale in the US this month. I hope I can find them around here, mmm faint scent of cooooffeeee.

I love the bat invitations that were on Martha Stewart Living (the television show) today. If you don't get a chance to see it, there is a paper bat inside of the card, each half is joined by a rubber band which is wound up so when you open the card it pops out and spins around. The idea came from winding the propellers on balsa wood model airplanes. The segment on sound effects was really good as well - "a frozen head of iceberg lettuce will create a sound similar to that of a head hitting a floor; generally horrifying 'squishing' noises can be conjured with a bag of Spaghetti-Os in a plastic bag".
