I was looking for liquid starch and ended up finding sugar oranments which are rather like making bath bombs. Also sugar eggs with little scenes inside.

What I'm thinking about: creating a translucent temporary finish for my kitchen window to create privacy without blocking out the light. I'd like to paint something on that will create the illusion of frosted glass. I ran across a thread in Get Crafty [site is unreachable as I post this] that talks about using liquid starch and tissue paper to create a stained glass effect. I'm assuming I can use this idea. Do you have an idea or any experience with something like this? Write to me! [HGTV.com is unreachable right now too] update: Faux Frosted Glass Research Results - Places like Home Depot carry removable window film, which conveniently offer UV protection. I found a frosted one. Most come in atrocious designs. It appears one would have to purchase window film, window film adhesive, window film removal agent and probably some special smoothing tools. I'm not quite down with that, I think I'll keep looking for a cheaper diy solution that involves fewer things to store someplace. Co-workers have suggested holiday window spray, which is temporary. I'll need to find a Christmas shop of some sort.

Last night I made a quick attempt at a chocolate hemisphere with a cocoa butter transfer on the outside. I'm not sure how it worked because I can't get the shells out of the metal molds, I really should do some real research before I start these things! I'll try again using the plastic molds, and take a walk down to the bookstore to see if I can find a book about techniques. I also have plans to order supplies for my Halloween project and actually order some bath yummies from Lush Canada. And a real coffee maker with a carafe, yay!

I spent some time making ice cream bombes this weekend, attempts turned out delicious, but not picturesque. Also fairly successful: making a chocolate shell sphere. Although I don't quite remember what possessed me to do that one. I ended up sticking the last set of bombs into my successful half shells, perhaps they would have fit if I let them melt their way down a little more. Hmmm. Experiments continue. Next: making my own cocoa butter transfers, and when I get entirely sick of chocolate comes making my own sandals from some foam soled shoes I never wear. I'm going to either go with Steve Madden-esque stretchy fabric or spandex lacings (which may involve the purchasing of a grommet tool, not sure if I want to go that far).
